In April 2023, General Motors rival Volkswagen debuted the ID.7 EV, which served as the German automaker’s new flagship sedan replacing the Arteon. While the Volkswagen ID.7 has been on sale in Europe since 2023, it now appears that the VW electric sedan will arrive on American shores later than initially expected.
Volkswagen has elected to delay the launch of the ID.7, citing changing market dynamics. Of course, the German-based automaker is likely referring to the slower-than-expected demand for electric vehicles in North America, as well as low interest in passenger cars as opposed to crossovers.
It’s worth noting that the ID.7 was originally scheduled to arrive later this year for the 2025 model year.
The North American-spec Volkswagen ID.7 will eventually be offered in two flavors, including the Pro S and Pro S Plus. Both of these trims will be available in either RWD or AWD configuration, where the former develops 282 horsepower and 402 pound-feet of torque, and the latter produces up to 335 horsepower. An 82-kWh battery is equipped as standard, while range and pricing figures are expected to be announced in Q3 2024.
Regardless of the ID.7 model selected, every example will be equipped with features like front- and rear-illuminated logos and power-folding mirrors, along with keyless access with proximity unlocking and a power liftgate.
Moving inside, a 15-inch infotainment display and augmented reality (AR) head-up display grabs the driver’s attention, while a heated steering wheel, 12-way adjustable heated front seats with massage and memory, smart air vents, and three-zone automatic climate control ensure maximum passenger comfort.
In regard to The General, with the impending shuttering of Chevy Malibu production later this year, the Detroit-based automaker won’t have a sedan rival to the ID.7 soon, all-electric or otherwise. That being said, the venerable Malibu nameplate will return for the 2026 or 2027 model year for an all-new generation, so the lack of a GM competitor won’t be permanent.

Think I’ll go over the VW Authority and read some Chevy articles
Looks like Dodge will have the only non compact EV sedan for a reasonable price. I was looking forward to this since not all of us want crossovers.
“Changing Market Dynamics”, means that Americans do not want this car.
means sensible thinking Americans don’t want electric.
“Changing market dynamics” = EV fad is over. Thank you!
