The United Auto Workers (UAW) union has announced that Jessica Gubing has been appointed as the CEO of the UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust.
Succeeding Interim CEO Garon Meikle – who in turn will transition to CFO of the union’s Retiree Medical Benefits Trust – Gubing is set to assume her new role on June 4th, 2024.
“Jessica is a collaborative customer-driven leader whose values and diverse career experience make her the right ‘fit’ for the Trust,” UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust Chair Robert Naftaly claimed in a prepared statement. “Over the course of her career, Jessica has earned the respect of those with whom she has negotiated, including the UAW, an attribute that will serve the Trust and its members well. She is an innovator. Her interest in population health and using data to drive health care quality aligns with the mission of the Trust to provide access to quality health care for our retirees at every stage of life.”
It’s worth noting that Gubing is currently the President and Founder of The Cortex Group, a healthcare and benefits consulting firm. Prior to this role, she served as a General Motors executive in various positions, including as the Director of U.S. Retirement, Profit Sharing, and Benefits Labor Strategy.
“I feel my career – my healthcare background, automotive experience, and strong UAW relationships built over me – has pinnacled in this new role,” Gubing remarked. “I am excited to join the Trust, to work with its team. My goal is to provide the highest quality health care for retirees responsibly within the Trust’s fiscal means. It’s a privilege and I am ready to serve the UAW retirees and their families.”
For background on the UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust itself, the Trust provides access to care for roughly 530,000 eligible retiree members across 50 U.S. states and spent $4 billion in retiree benefits back in 2022.

This is concerning based on decades of gm management trying to cut benefits of active and retired members! I hope the union makes sure that the benefits of retirees are protected and never get shredded.
The uaw trust is only available for employees that were hired before Oct. 2007. It excludes thousands of due paid uaw members and myself.
Be grateful you have this benefit, they dumped the salary retirees on our asses
What benefit? That’s what I’m trying to inform people about. We pay full price on union dues without having the retirement medical coverage, ie. The uaw trust.
Ironic that the union health benefits are now run by an old exec, when they cut health benefits of the salaried employees during GM’s bankruptcy in 2009. I guess the whole thing was the “Save the UAW” filing; screw the salaried. What a scam.
