Nick Sanchez, driver of the No. 2 NASCAR Chevy Silverado RST, capitalized on a late-race pit stop to secure a victory at Charlotte on May 24th, 2024.
A quick pit stop and four fresh slicks put Sanchez out front with just nine laps left, besting the No. 11 Toyota TRD Tundra of Corey Heim, who suffered miscues on Pit Road that may have cost him the race. Sanchez went on to win without question, collecting a $50,000 bonus as the victor of the Triple Truck Challenge so far this year.
“It’s awesome, my No. 2 Gainbridge Chevrolet,” said Sanchez after winning the second race of his Truck Series career. “What can I say more about this team? We started off bad. It didn’t affect us. We went to work. We put ourselves in position when it mattered most.”
He added, “This is for Chris Showalter, my car chief. Birthday today, 700th truck start. This is for him, and it’s great to get number two.”
Showalter, current car chief for the No. 2 NASCAR Chevy Truck team, has been a part of the Truck Series since its inception in 1995.
Meanwhile, another Bow Tie-backed Truck team didn’t have as good of a run. Christian Eckes, driver of the No. 19 Silverado, entered Charlotte with the series lead, but had to start in the rear after being unable to qualify after crashing in practice. Alternator issues plagued Eckes’ race truck throughout the race, but he managed to snag the lead on a restart after staying out on the last pit stop. He ultimately finished 10th.
Meanwhile, Heim was disqualified after his truck was found to have loose lug nuts in post-race inspection, bumping Stewart Friesen, driver of the No. 52 Tundra and Grant Enfinger, driver of the No. 9 Silverado, to second and third place, respectively.
