Debuting the AT4X AEV Edition package (RPO code XEV) and several other changes and updates, the 2024 GMC Canyon follows the refreshed and overhauled 2023 model year. Here, GM Authority is providing a closer look at the GMC Canyon payload capacities for the 2024 model year, which are identical to those from the previous year.
Before looking at the details, let’s highlight the available powertrain and transmission that make the 2024 GMC Canyon payload hauling possible. Specifically, the 2024 Canyon is powered by a single powerplant across all trim levels – the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine developing 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. General Motors gave the L3B TurboMax branding for the 2024 model year.
For cog swaps, the Canyon also has a single transmission choice in the form of the second-gen GM eight-speed automatic transmission. The pickup comes in both 2WD and 4WD configurations.
After looking at these specs, the following table shows the full range of 2024 GMC Canyon payload capacities:
2024 GMC Canyon Payload Capacities
Trim Level Drivetrain Turbo 2.7L I4 L3B Payload (lbs / kg) Elevation 2WD 1,640 / 744 Elevation 4WD 1,590 / 721 AT4 4WD 1,550 / 703 AT4X 4WD 1,250 / 567 Denali 4WD 1,360 / 617
As is often the case, the entry-level trim – the Elevation – in rear-wheel drive has the highest among the 2024 GMC Canyon payload capacities at 1,640 pounds. The lowest payload is offered by the off-road focused AT4X trim level, with 1,250 pounds capacity and four-wheel drive equipped as standard.
Owners and drivers of this pickup model should also note the GMC payload information on the Tire and Loading Information label that is typically affixed to the B-pillar of the vehicle. More crucial load information is provided on the Certification/Tire label and in the owner’s manual, and care should be taken to include the weight of the pickup’s occupants in the payload to avoid overloading.
GM Authority has previously published information on the towing capacities of the 2024 GMC Canyon truck as well. This includes information on the towing possible with the Trailering Package (RPO code Z82) or ProGrade Trailering System (ZL6) installed.
The GMC Canyon continues to be underpinned by an updated variant of the GMT 31XX platform, with production taking place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

Compared to the recent story on the Colorado’s payload capacity, this is more what I would expect. Lower capacities as you add more and more equipment/weight. Note none of these numbers match the highest level that was shown on the Colorado.
1,805 lbs Ranger has good amount more I think the Ranger may be best in class
