In the 2024 rendition of the U.S. OEM EV App Report, data analytics firm J.D. Power has ranked two of three General Motors electric vehicle apps above the average.
According to the 2024 J.D. Power U.S. OEM EV App Report, myCadillac and myGMC both ranked above average in their respective segments at 795 out of a possible 1,000 points, while myChevrolet was the sole General Motors EV app placed below the Mass Market segment average at 727.
It’s worth noting that the Mass Market and Premium categories boasted segment averages of 757 and 774, respectively, while MyHyundai with Bluelink was ranked first overall in the former, and Tesla topped the latter.
“The overall experience and performance of electric vehicle mobile apps has improved year over year, as manufacturers continue to identify areas of opportunity, including feature contenting, usability and overall connectivity,” J.D. Power Benchmark Consulting Director Jason Norton. “However, a continued focus on the specific needs of EV owners is needed to further improve the user experience and trust.”
Interestingly, all three of The General’s electric vehicle apps were ranked well above average last year.
There were several significant findings in the report, including:
- App connectivity focused:
- Although the percentage of EV owners who reported connection issues (38 percent) remained the same, there was a notable difference between Tesla and non-Tesla owners. 40 percent of non-Tesla owners experienced a connection problem, compared to 35 percent of Tesla owners.
- Feature-driven:
- Top-performing brands addressed the wants of the owners. Of the 25 most common app features, 20 were cited as desirable by more than 70 percent of EV owners, while all but one charging-related feature was more desirable than in previous years.
- Continuing effect on EV shoppers:
- 62 percent of Tesla owners claim that the availability of a smartphone app had a notable effect on their purchase decisions. As for non-Tesla owners, this dropped to 34 percent.
- Dealership effect on satisfaction:
- 72 percent of EV owners claimed they received some type of assistance from the dealership with apps. Those who received said assistance were more likely to use the app and be satisfied with it than those who didn’t.

I find these rankings funny. The myBrand apps are all the same, the myBuick, myGMC, myChevrolet, myCadillac all are the same exact app but with a different skin. So When these rankings are done you are just getting the different brand owners opinions of the same app. Also add to the fact that it depends on what vehicle and model year the app is attached to as different features/content is available depending on that as well.
