Yet another class action lawsuit has been filed against GM in late May 2024, this time related to alleged power loss and stalling in Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain vehicles caused by a defective AC Delco fuel pump.
The lawsuit claims that the fuel pump in affected Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain crossovers lasts for less than 100,000 miles rather than the 150,000 to 200,000 miles it should continue in operation, as reported by Car Complaints.Â
One of two specific incidents leading to the lawsuit was the alleged experience of a Florida couple, Greg and Twila Kerr, with a used 2021 Chevy Equinox. In less than a year and a half, the Kerrs claim, the crossover began having starting trouble, but the dealership did not fix the issue because the vehicle was not completely immobilized.
In the case of the Terrain, a 2023 GMC Terrain bought by Texas plaintiff Robert Knowles allegedly began to stall within three months of purchase, while the engine simultaneously started making noise. The lawsuit noted that two trips to dealer service were ineffective in remedying the problem, since “the dealership has confirmed that the issues were caused by the fuel pump but has not completed the repair.”
The class action lawsuit claims these incidents are proof that GM dealerships simply replace the current defective fuel pumps with new – but still defective – fuel pumps, resulting in the problem continuing.
GM previously issued a Chevy Equinox recall for inadequate fuel pump flow, though replacement fuel pumps were not available in February 2023 for the repairs to be actually completed. The recall specifically noted the 2021 Chevy Equinox and 2022 Chevy Equinox as the model years affected.
The General also recalled the GMC Terrain for the same issue, and during the same month, February 2023. However, the 2022 GMC Terrain crossovers was the model year recalled, while Knowles alleges the defect was present in a 2023 Terrain. Between both vehicle models, 23,164 units were said to be affected, with notification letters sent by March 3rd, 2023.
The class action lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware.

More junk supplier parts. When is the Supply Chain VP getting fired?
Fired? Probably promoted as long as the component lasts through the warranty period. It’s a combination of planned obsolescence and future service/parts work. Saving $5 over a quality fuel pump is more profitable than a class action suit. The only thing missing in the posts so far is Rammy blaming the customer.
Blaming a customer that’s coming soon
Always blaming the suppliers for everything. If GM were able to actually build their own parts and didn’t demand the cheapest possible solution, they wouldn’t have this problem.
All built in China where all thier parts come from .
When are going to get the faulty engine lawsuit? Pretty rare that any of these 2 vehicles make over 150k miles without engine failure or major timing issues. Every year ever made is this way. Gm has failed on these models badly.
GM has had problems with its Turbo Ecotec small displacement engines since the first Cruze rolled off the line. Makes me wonder about the current Trailblazer/Encore GX and Trax/Envista vehicles as well. GM isn’t alone; Ford has had a bunch of issues with these tiny engines too.
I am sure it is from the younger ones petal to the metal all the time too much for these engines
All these youngsters putting flowers on their cars are ruining everything!

errain 12000 kl 1 year old fuel pump blew
Absolutely not so , the 1.5 is a robust engine , we have a 2019 1.5 with 250,000 kilometers
it is completely adequate for the Nox and is a trouble free.
Have you ever driven or owned one ?
I suggest not , the 1.5 Nox performance-wise compares very favorably to the standard engines in most everything in the segment and is better than many , that is why GM sells 100s of 1000s of these every year
I have owned a 2019, 2020 2 l, and a 2021 1.5, 2 of which we still have. These are very competent vehicles and and have some of the best reliability in the segment.
Pressure to price point at the lowest forces unwise decisions to take the stuff out of parts. Under warranty and GM service depts must use GM parts, otherwise it’s not a GM. All dealers have a local parts supplier (store) when needed and they know other brands are far better.
We have had a 2017 equinox between 2017 we’ve had extremely little issues with this car it’s got a little over 100,000 miles on it now we did have a cam sensor replaced but other than that no serious problems timing chain makes a little noise but then again what time it changed on so it’s been checked so it’s all good!
And it would be more the supplier than probably the company just who would be responsible since everybody wants to buy everything out of China anymore that’s what you get!!

I wonder if GM is buying their fuel pumps from Denso. Honda has recalled 2.9 million cars because of faulty Denso fuel pumps. And of course, the replacement pumps aren’t even close to being available.
This is the only thing that makes me a little concerned. I know when I rented a GMC Terrain the model I had didn’t like cold starts. The motor would stay revved up to 3-4,000 RPM and hover there for about 5-10 seconds before slowly coming down. People tend to ride rentals rough, but it was a brand new 2024 model.
So it revved high in the cold and then dropped slowly to normal rpm?
You mean, exactly like it’s supposed to?
No, it held higher RPMs longer than typical for a cold start and unusually so.
Richard P must be from a warm state. My son grew up in Florida and his first cold morning in college in Central Florida (UCF) he called me and said the same, the engine reved very high at first. He never learned what a chock does. Now the computer spits out extra gas to get a rich mixture when cold.
Perhaps I’m not used to the 1.5l engine, but I’ve started up cars in negative temperature and never experienced anything like this. The temperature with the Terrain was high-40s to mid 50s. I wouldn’t think that would make such a difference to idle at 3.5k RPM.
The last time I had to change out a fuel pump, water pump, alternator power steering pump and anything else that hangs on an engine. I think on my 1992 Saturn was a water pump and 2001 Astro Van electric fuel pump. I keep vehicles over the 100,000 mile mark.
The biggest issue with most manufacturers is they keep fixing what not broke.
Nate not 3-4,000. My 3 chevys are around 1,600 rpm’s, everyone.
These are the worst cars ever made
Every auto mechanic worldwide knows that these cars aren’t worth it. I’m currently driving one as we speak and they give you stickers for the bad reflective headlights. That was a complete joke and the engine sounds horrible. I had to get the engine replaced and it still sounds horrible no matter what you do, the terrain in the equinox are pieces of crap and very expensive to fix
All the pickup truck and large suv fuel pumps are junk as well. Never had one make is past a 100k. Typical GM planned obsolescence
Yeah, mechanical fuel pumps were more reliable, cheaper, and easier to replace. I know, you have to have electric for fuel injection but they don’t really have to be in the fuel tank.
I remember the early Ford automatic chokes that you had to set manually on cold mornings by depressing the accelerator before cranking the engine. This closed the choke butterfly and set the carb to fast idle. As the engine warmed up the bimetallic choke coil expanded and gradually opened the choke. These worked great when they worked. It allowed you to start the engine and go back inside until it warmed up. If they didn’t work properly you had to sit in the car and keep it running until it warmed up. I converted more than one to manual choke with the kits that were readily available at the time. Ahh, the good old days??
The engine stall and loss of power is very dangerous. I have stalled on the railroad tracks I have had difficulty starting and my car turning off ever since I had 35,000 mi. I bought the car with 8 mi on it and complained several times. The check engine light has been on for a year and I have been unable to even get an estimate in writing that the fuel pump was faulty. I was told by a mechanic that it was faulty but I was told that I would have to pay for the repairs. To this day I have still not received a recall notice for the vehicle and drive it in fear every single day. My 2021 equinox shuts off on average 20 times each day. I loved general motors. I love Chevrolet but this car has given me second thoughts about the next brand that I will purchase. I have always only bought general motors and specifically Chevrolet products, but this car leaves me in fear
My thought is that general motor s knew that they had faulty fuel pumps and that because of the slowdown in sales due to covid-19 they decided to take their chances and recoup sales numbers at the expense of consumers. When I say that this vehicle feels unsafe and is very dangerous. Trust me when you stall on a railroad track or at a red light or merging on to the expressway you’re in danger.
Thank God my NOX IS A 2014 MODEL. THE MAN WHO OWNED IT BEFORE ME DROVE IT 103K IN 3YRS. YES IT HAD ALOT OF MILES ON IT BUT SHE PURRED LIKE A KITTEN. ONLY THING THATS BEEN REPLACED WAS A CAM POSITION SENSOR AT 42K. BEFORE HE BOUGHT IT. I HAD TO REPLACE THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. STILL HAS FACTORY BREAKS ON HER STILL AT 161K. BEST CAR I’VE DRIVEN IN 40YRS.
We own a 2014 GMC Terrain and it is having these issues. It hasn’t run in 8 months as we couldn’t get anyone to come and tow it to the dealership to be looked over.
Noone wants to touch these vehicles because of the issues that need fixing!
I spoke with an attorney about the issue but have not heard back. Does anyone know how to be included in the class action lawsuit? I just want my car to be fixed. It has sputtered and stalled so much that I’m truly afraid of being hit.
I was researching my 2015 Equinox, after the fact, of it throwing all its oil out or burning it and I saw that there was a class action suit filed in Michigan a few years before that. GM settled but never fixed the problem, hence, my problem. There needs to be a class action brought for the 2.5 L engine, all over the US. I did contact a lawyer but never had back.
I drive a 2007 equinox and it is a HUGE disappointment. It has all kinds of electrical issues and engine issues and the mechanics can’t seem to figure it out. The dealer basically told me “sucks to be you” so I quit taking it to them. My mechanic at least tries. Most days the power locks don’t work, it won’t release the key 95 percent of the time, it cuts the engine power while driving (because thats safe), the transmission is now slipping, the tempatrure sensor goes out every other month. Its to the point my mechanic knows me on a first name bases and I don’t even have to tell him which vehical I am bringing in. They fix the part that is supposedly faulty and the vehical continues to do the exact same thing. After the transmission I quit taking it in. I’ve been driving it with the transmission slipping and no temeture sensor for 6 months or longer now. When I can afford a new vehical I can promise you it absolutely will NOT be GM or Chevy. Driving a Chevy used to be a thing of pride, now its a finacal burden and a safety hazard. They should be shut down and forced to pay every poor person who owns a GM or Chevy a compensation fee of some sort.
I agree with you 100%, I have a Terrain.
I own a 2020 Chev Equinox. Had less than 25,000. Miles on it They have replaced 2 different injectors Plugs harness Fuses and fuel pump been in GM shop 6 times still missing losing power now I have 35,000. Miles on it and The Chev Dealer a d Shop Manger still does not know what the problem is. All city Miles
Have your car on an 80 mph road where your car you just fot 1 month earlier reduced speed. Your car had no speed couldnt climb up hills wouldnt let your car go into netural and your car wouldn’t go any more than 45mph on the highway. I bought the car at 23k miles but ai took it to many shops and no one could find the issue. I had to first take it to the dealership on where i got it to. Which was over 1300 miles away. Plus couldnt take it into the shop for 2 more weeks. Then the check engine light was on and they had car alll day and said they couldn’t find an issue.
The last weekend i owned it, out of no where in Pennsylvania which this was a constant issue I couldn’t pass a semi at 55 mph which highway speed was 70/ mph hour.
This car almost cost me my life…
I called the bank to take the car back because this car woild have taken my life or my two dogs life.
I think witn over a millions miles under my belt I know how to handle this, but i couldn’t imagine this happening to any of my sibblings or my mom and freak out and cost them their lives.
Just seeing this story makes my heart breaks…
I’m disappointed in my 2012 Equinox LT. Just replaced the motor and now it’s burning oil like crazy😡
My 2013 died at 79000 miles. Bought it used at 29000. Motor blew a year after I paid it off and out of warranty. 10000 for a new motor…. Was gonna buy another GM. Decided against and got a Jeep Compass, pretty happy so far.
I have a used 2006 Chevy Equinox and I’m now experiencing the same issue how can I get In on this class action lawsuit?
A year and 4 months ago I financed a 2021 Chevy Equinox from a dealership and now they are saying that I need a engine because of the exact same issues mentioned above. Initially the codes that came up stated that there was a Emissions issue P0300/P050D which is directly connected to the exhaust gas released into the air and the fuel economy and the stalling of my engine. I checked into my VIN to see if there were any recalls done and found no recalls were completed as well. I need help asap, currently no transportation because the car is at the shop of the dealership that sold me the vehicle a little over a year ago. How can I be apart of this class action suit?
2024 Chevrolet Equinox LT VIN# 3GNAXKEG1RS102*** @ 25,949 MILES car went into limp made low fuel pressure code P228C & P0089. Went to two dealerships before they could work on it. Technician found high pressure only had 250 psi @ idle “Pump WEAK” replaced pump, drove another 600 miles…now it’s doing the same thing but off and on. Before it stayed in Limp Mode. I spoke with another Technician, and he said it’s a problem they are seeing. They had the part in stock, he also said the camshaft and or cam follower may be the problem. The next technician needs to check for that as well as fuel pressure. let me hear your ideas. Maybe I should sell.
