GM Envolve Launches Insights DualCam System: Video

General Motors’ fleet operations division GM Envolve has announced the arrival of the Insights DualCam system, a sophisticated camera setup that gives fleet managers the ability to see everything their driver sees.

Offered as an OnStar Business Solutions product, the Insights DualCam system has the ability to record both the driver of a properly equipped fleet vehicle and the road, thus allowing fleet managers to review the footage following an incident or crash. Furthermore, the DualCam system is capable of sending alerts in the event that harsh braking or distracted behaviors are detected.

In regard to the specifics, there are three notable benefits to the Insights DualCam system, including:

  • Real-time alerts
    • Improve driving behaviors with objective safety training and accurate feedback
    • Audio and visual alerts for real-time corrections
    • Education on unsafe behaviors and distractions
  • Dual-view cameras
    • Assess financial liability with interior and exterior perspectives
    • Access easily downloadable and shareable video footage to verify claims
    • Built-in screens for easy viewing of the display
  • Fleet-wide reporting
    • Identify and address high-priority risks with seamless recordings
    • Utilize machine vision and artificial intelligence to detect and review false positives
    • Increased visibility of driver behavior

It’s worth noting that interested fleet managers will need an Insights Plan in order to purchase and implement this technology.

In other GM Envolve-related developments, GM Authority recently reported that the BrightDrop Zevo 600 and BrightDrop Zevo 400 are finally getting FWD variants for the upcoming 2025 model year. This is a notable development, as although General Motors claimed that both FWD and AWD versions would be built for the 2024 model year, only AWD units made it through the assembly line at the GM CAMI plant in Canada.

As for the difference between the FWD and AWD variants, the former will reportedly boast output ratings of 240 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque in comparison to the latter’s output rating of 300 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. Additionally, it’s likely that the FWD units will be more affordable as compared to their AWD counterparts.
