Following the recent flexibility of its global strategy towards an all-electric future, General Motors has confirmed that it will offer hybrid Chevrolet models in Brazil.
A senior representative of the automaker’s South American subsidiary confirmed to Automotive Business that the company will soon offer models with hybrid propulsion systems in some of Chevrolet’s vehicles in Brazil, the largest automotive market in Latin America. The measure responds to the reality of the Brazilian market and the demand of local customers, who prefer a progressive transition towards all-electric vehicles.
“It is a decision by the corporation to offer some models of our vehicles in a hybrid format in Brazil,” said Vice President of Public Relations and Communications at GM South America Fabio Rua. “I’m not going to anticipate the level of hybridization, but what I can say is that our local clients signaled that this is a propulsion system that he hopes to see in Chevrolet models at some point. In the next few months or a year, it will be seen,” he added.
While the GM South America executive did not reveal the level of hybridization of the vehicles Chevrolet plans to offer in Brazil or a specific timeline for their introduction, Rua suggested that the first hybrid Chevrolet models could be launched during the 2025 calendar year, when the manufacturer will celebrate the milestone of 100 years of presence in the Brazilian market.
This represents a significant change from GM’s refusal to invest in hybrid powertrains on the American continent until last year. The company was forced to adjust its strategy due to market conditions and customer demands, who see the hybrid as a viable solution that provides security. At the same time, the charging infrastructure for EVs is developed – especially in underdeveloped countries.
The upcoming Chevrolet hybrid vehicles for Brazil are part of the new $1.4 billion investment cycle in the country that the company announced earlier this year. The cycle includes a complete renewal of the portfolio of locally manufactured vehicles and the development of “innovative technologies.” GM is expected to reveal more details about the plan as investments are made and the launch date of the new hybrid models approaches.

Brazil get hybrids next year and the US isn’t supposed to get them until 2027 I believe. More smart moves by little gm, Mary and the gang.
Hybrid= gas guzzler. I own a Volt. More of an EV with backup gas motor. The only thing I hate about it is the gas motor. I also own a full EV, much better going pure EV. I don’t drive it for the environment, I drive it because it is a better car than gas. I don’t drive it for politics, I am conservative.
