Corvette E-Ray Is The 108th Indianapolis 500 Official Pace Car: Video

As GM Authority covered in May 2023, the Corvette Z06 convertible served as the official pace car for the 107th running of the Indianapolis 500. That being said, another ‘Vette model has been named the official pace car for the 108th Indy 500, namely the Corvette E-Ray.

This year’s Indy 500 pace car features an Arctic White (color code G8G) exterior paint job, along with a two-tone jet black and natural interior colorway. As one may expect, Indy 500 logos can be found all over, while carbon fiber wheels complete the race-ready aesthetic.

“We are proud to announce the E-Ray, which is the first electrified and quickest production Corvette ever, will be pacing the 108th running of the Indianapolis 500,” Global Chevy Vice President Scott Bell stated. “As we often say, Chevrolet and Indycar share the same spirit of competition and performance-oriented, cutting-edge technology, making E-Ray the perfect fit to pace this year’s race.”

Of course, the Corvette and the Indy 500 have a long and storied history together. In fact, America’s Sports Car has served as the Indianapolis 500’s official pace car 21 times since 1978.

As Global Chevy Vice President Scott Bell stated, the C8 E-Ray is the quickest production-spec Corvette to date. This speediness is due to the combination of the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT2 gasoline engine and the front-mounted electric motor, which develop a combined 655 horsepower.

“As we anticipate another record-breaking Indianapolis 500, it’s only fitting that the quickest production Corvette will pace the field,” IMS President J. Douglas Boles remarked. “The performance enhancements tested on the track make their way to the street, and the Corvette E-Ray is a prime example of that Chevrolet innovation.”

It’s worth noting that the Indy 500 is currently scheduled to kick off on May 26th, 2024. For those interested in purchasing tickets, be sure to check out the speedway’s website.

    1. It is an honor for the Chevy Corvette to carry the colors of the Oldsmobile Cutlass. Oldsmobile was the oldest car brand in the world, it existed before Chevrolet was created, and the Cutlass was once the most sold domestic sedan. I drove a 1984 Cultlass for 26 years and I sold it to my neighbor who drove in many more years. That is how great it was!!

    1. Probably nobody with intelligence being it’s and EV. Most likely someone who will try to push the EV fad which will be done in a few months. I don’t plan on watching. Could be worse. At least we don’t have to see a Ford.
