Chevrolet has announced revised horsepower and torque ratings for the Chevy Equinox EV in both its front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations, the first revision to its power specs since the crossover model officially debuted in September 2022.
Both metrics increased for the two configurations with the exception of the FWD model’s torque, which decreased. The following table shows the new horsepower and torque ratings for the 2024 Chevy Equinox EV and compares them to the previously announced ratings:
Previous Power (hp) | Revised Power (hp) | Previous Torque (lb-ft) | Revised Torque (lb-ft | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Equinox EV FWD | 210 | 213 | 242 | 236 |
Equinox EV AWD | 290 | 288 | 346 | 333 |
As a reminder, GM Authority has previously revealed pricing details for the 2024 Chevy Equinox EV, including the extra cost for available options and packages. Starting MSRPs begin at $34,995 for the 1LT trim configured with FWD and range up to $52,395 for the limited-run, fully loaded 2RS Launch Edition.
The highest base price for a non-special edition Equinox EV trim is $50,095 for the 3RS trim level with AWD. These prices include a $1,395 destination freight charge.
All variants and trim levels of the 2024 Equinox EV are rated with a maximum towing capacity of 1,500 pounds. There is a break-in period of 500 miles after purchase during which GM recommends that the EV should not be used for towing to avoid damage to the vehicle.
While production of the vehicle kicked off back in February, deliveries of the 2RS and 2RS Launch Edition have now begun at the time of writing in mid-May 2024. The 2LT, 3LT and 3RS trim levels will begin to appear in dealership lots at the end of May, while the base 1LT trim will arrive sometime later in 2024.
The official online configurator for the 2024 Chevy Equinox EV is now live, enabling potential buyers to try out various builds. The technological underpinnings of the EV include GM Ultium batteries and GM Ultium Drive motors for motivation, while the vehicle uses the GM BEV3 platform for structure.
Production takes place exclusively at the GM Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico.

do not think these figures are accurate
I absolutely love the (all “new”) Chevrolet EV Equinox. From the (exterior to the interior), the new EV, looks premium in all.aspects. GM, is putting put so much highly desirable SUV, Trucks, both in the BEV and ICE arena. All others should take note, GM is on top of their game.
I think you got the AWD HP numbers wrong…
Maybe the torque and hp numbers are swapped
Also the previous figures they are showing are not correct. Not sure why this was even posted.
Maybe you should tell media.chevrolet.com they are communicating incorrect information.
this info is NOT from chevy.com. It has the right info, 288hp and 333lb-ft which is what the blazer LT has for power figures. I dont know where the other numbers came from.
Since you know more than the manufacturer, maybe you should tell media.chevrolet.com they are communicating incorrect information. If I use this web-browser-thingy and go the news releases, I see:
5-14-2024
A standard front-wheel-drive system with GM estimated 213 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque offers quick acceleration and a fun driving experience for everyday tasks, with a 288-horsepower and 333 lb-ft torque eAWD system available.
That’s what I just said. Not sure what you’re arguing about. Those aren’t the numbers in this post above.
no Apple CarPlay, no deal
Apparently GM isn’t the only manufacturer leaving it off. Is there a reason? Can iPhone users download Android Auto?
GM said something along the lines that CarPlay/Android Auto can’t read the vehicle’s battery status, behaviors, or other vehicle controls. That becomes important for finding charging stations, etc.
The built-in radio software looks at the car’s battery level status, terrains, if AC/Heat is on, and other features to give an accurate battery percentage reading.
Tesla does this (no CarPlay, AA) to keep their battery percentages accurate.
The new system is actually pretty spectacular does everything Apple CarPlay does and more!
That may be what they said, but I don’t believe it. That would be like saying CarPlay doesn’t allow the speedometer to work. Also, I’m not familiar with CarPlay, but with Android Auto they could develop an app that does those things and have it pre-installed.
Android is a google based system. As with CarPlay it does more than android auto. And it’s free for 8 years!
You act like free for 8 years is a selling point. To me that’s huge negative. AA is free forever.
The system is free forever too on the blazer/equinox…. They included 3 year(in canada at least) of free vehicle data plan. After those 3 year , you can pay for data to onstar OR share your actual mobile data plan with a hotspot.
I’ve been thinking about this answer, and for me that is completely unnecessary. I’ll be charging at home, so range and public charging stations are not something I’ll ever care about. If I’m going to take a longer trip, I’ll take an ICE vehicle to have faster refueling.
So basically it sounds like they’re trying to appease a small percentage of likely buyers–those who cannot charge at home. (Not that such people don’t exist.)
The new system is actually pretty spectacular does everything Apple CarPlay does and more!
The new system is actually pretty spectacular does everything Apple CarPlay does and more!
Including charging you a monthly subscription fee to use it!
that is a lie. Stop it. You have 8 years of free google nav included.
Yes, a time bomb makes it so much more acceptable.
someone just said you need a subscription to use the google built in and you do not for 8 years- most people will lease these vehicles and will never have to worry about it.
But it’s proprietary, so no, not something I would trust in a vehicle I want to keep a long time.
what??? what car interface is NOT proprietary? You do realize that it is impossible to avoid using the the OEM interface in a car because projection systems do NOT control car functions so to change anything in the car you need revert back to the OEM system. Even voice control via projection only controls media and nav within the phone- it doesn’t control the car
By proprietary I mean controlled by the car manufacturer. I trust Google and Apple more than I trust Ford or GM to develop and maintain these types of systems over a number of years. People who bought cars with the Ford/Microsoft systems made a huge mistake.
And I don’t buy at all the argument that having one interferes with other systems in the car that are proprietary. So for example, you can have voice control that controls the car without having voice control that controls your phone. Currently my Android Auto system doesn’t do anything via voice recognition because I don’t want it setup that way (not even sure what is possible, because I don’t want it in a car).
so you really think in house GM people are doing all the programming? I doubt that is the case, all of this stuff is outsourced and its using an android based interface and will likely be updated. The OEM software NEVER goes anywhere- it doesnt matter how much you use phone projection. People are really delusional on this thinking that using AA/CP means you are divorced from the car’s native electronics. On any modern car (especially those heavily reliant on screens) you have to use the native UI to get stuff done in the car. The more automakers rely on screens the more limited you are by trying to remain in projection mode all the time since you can’t control the car via projection.
By “all this stuff” maybe you mean the core nav and OS level things which are kind of out of the box “Google for cars”. If you’re implying there are no software engineers at GM working on the rest of the interface, including the plethora of componentized computers throughout all cars, then you haven’t seen comments from them here on this board responding to blatant criticisms of the software with phrases like “F… Off”.
Microsoft did the programming for Ford’s system years ago. The product sucked. It’s not that I care who does the programming, I care that the $30,000+ car doesn’t have a service I want. If they want to add some other option, that’s fine, but if they want to add some other option to the exclusion of a service I know works well, that’s not fine.
Microsoft did the vehicle connectivity for VW, at least initially — even though Porsche had a much better solution they were already using. The management wanted to use something “off the shelf” all their brands could use so they redesigned everything from scratch. That went well.
I just leased a LYRIQ which still has Carplay and Android Auto but I NEVER use them anymore.
Google Built-In is far more polished and relative with an EV; showing me accurate battery percentages at my destination and more easily navigating me to charging stations based on my real-time needs and planned route.
I believe this is the main reason why GM nixed them on EVs moving forward. Most people don’t like the thought of change or the loss of something they are already comfortable with. They need to be FORCED to use the embedded Google system to take advantage of it’s benefits. Use Google on a GM EV and you won’t miss Carplay or A/A.
The people who are doing all of the complaining have likely never been in the car and have not spent any time with the new system. They are upset at the mere notion that GM is banishing carplay- they arent going to take time to figure out if what is offers works- they don’t want to know that. They just want to make the case that they can’t successfully operate a car without carplay. You can never make everyone happy. One thing about it, established EV owners are mostly used to not having carplay so there are millions of potential customers out there with EV experience who do not see that as a deal breaker. Then you figure half of the public is already used to android/google- bottom line is you have a lot of potential customers out there. Many have pointed to the Honda and Acura still offering it- that is fine, but the Prologue is expensive and beyond CP there isn’t really anything it offers over the Blazer (or even Equinox) so those willing to shell out thousands more for CP can do it.
So…
No choice between ICE & EV = BAD
No choice between AA/CP & GM Infotainment = GOOD
Just how do you expect I’m going to find out if I like their system? That would take many hours of use, far beyond what you can do with a test drive. I’m not going to risk having a car I don’t like because I don’t like it’s system. It’s bad enough that these days you practically have to read owner’s manuals before deciding on a car.
That actually fits with something I just posted. If they want to add their service to AA/Carplay, that’s fine. That way I’ll know I have something I like, and if I like there’s better, great. But if I don’t like theirs I won’t be left with a car I no longer like, no longer want. Too big of a gamble.
And 0 to 60 is?
Irrelevant. Who are you trying to drag race in an SUV? A more relevant question is the ground clearance and performance/capabilities in snow, but GM marketing fails to mention anything about the actual capability of their vehicles and just focuses on trying to sell the shiny bits.
So far it looks like how animated the lights are is more of a selling point than how it (or any of their vehicles) actually works as a car.
6 secs with the AWD model
I think maybe the question was centered around whether they actually updated the motors they are using (hence the new power figures) and those old acceleration numbers may be moot now.
the 0-60 has been consistent from the beginning and is on par with the blazer that has the exact same powertrain. The Equinox is only a little bit lighter than the blazer, it may shave a few tenths off Blazer AWD time. I think what this post is supposed to say is that original numbers were 290/346 and now they are 288/333
EV are a scam for feeble minds.
EV are perfect for brilliant minds, but you are not one of them.
C’mon man.
So are conspiracies like global warming.
Those HP and torque numbers are better than what my 2009 Equinox 2LT has.
It’s looks and drives amazing honestly favorite new design. Chevy has absolutely killed it lately Trax, Traverse and now this! They’re on fire 🔥
Where did you drive one?
I work at a Chevy store
And you have Equinox’s in already? I’ve been searching dealer websites for months to try and find out when they were coming in. Nothing in my city.
Yup have a black RS it’s honestly one of the looking and performing cars I’ve ever seen! In person it looks like a Porsche. And it’s a great ride amazing handling and for everyone that was (I include myself that they got rid of android auto and 🍎 the new system is better 😳 I’m super techy you can tell it to change temperature, roll down your windows, and like 20 other things it’s super cool) But it’s still available. Email me I’ll send some pics! I mean it’s so cool!
They just started rolling in. Can’t even search online thru Chevy for availability right now though. Have a FWD RS in Albany ny
A 50 thousand dollar Equinox. Nobody asked for that.
Before the 7500 tax credit. Volkswagen ID4 costs more.
thats fully loaded, not the base price. I think it will sell very well- a lot of people ARE asking for something like that.
Why don’t they take this down if it is incorrect, which it probably is incorrect.
I somehow totally missed the news that GM was dropping both CarPlay and Android Auto from their EVs. Since I’ll only be buying EVs going forward (except possible for RV use), I now have no reason to visit this site going forward. GM is dead to me.
There’s still not a single EV I want to buy for various small reasons that are important to me. I don’t tend to compromise when buying a car. I was really hoping I would like the Equinox, but now I know I don’t even have to go sit in one.
The new system is better! Try it
I’m not going to spend $30k+ to try out a software system. That would be foolhardy. And a test drive is not going to be at all adequate to assess the system.
I used GPS systems very early on in cars. And I’ve used many different types and know there are a lot that really suck (e.g. TomTom). They wife’s Subaru has a TomTom system built in, and while I wish it wasn’t even on the car, at least the car has AA/CarPlay.
Some of the things that keep me from buying some EVs are really minor, like the location of turn signal lights I consider unsafe, or stupid flat bottom steering wheels. In comparison, this is major. If they wanted to offer their choice in addition to AA/CarPlay that would be acceptable. This is not.
It’s google maps the most used map system in the world!
lots of companies are using android automotive based UI. Ford is starting to roll it out on new and updated models now. Not sure why you think this is a novelty being pioneered by chevy
Yes, and android automotive fully supports using AA/CarPlay, but GM is CHOOSING to not implement/disable it to increase revenue — that is their stated direction. Disabling features to increase revenue for internally built products is the same reason I won’t ever use Verizon — they have been doing the same thing for decades. GM is just making enemies out of potential customers (as seen above, and across many EV-related stories on this site).
The built in Google maps system ensures you don’t run out of charge since it is integrated with the car. Would you rather have Apple CarPlay or run out of charge on a long trip?
Totally irrelevant for me since I’ll be charging at home and never driving anywhere near the range of the car. It would be totally irrelevant for most people who charge at home most of the time.
I have the option of seeing estimated range on my ICE truck. I don’t necessarily leave that turned on.
they did not say they are dropping it to make money- if that were the case why the hell do they keep offering it in all of their gas cars??? That makes no sense.
It’s still in their older systems because those are platforms it is already incorporated into and it would cost more to remove it than anything they would make from increased nav subscriptions (if those vehicles even supported it).
And yes, they did say they were dropping it to make more money.
they are including AA on brand new gas models like the new traverse. Sorry, still wrong. My question remains- if the only reason was to make money why would they make AA standard in 95% of their cars? That makes no sense, just like I said. Also, why would you make something free for 8 years if your goal to to drive new revenue and profits? Free for 8 years is not really a sound strategy to drive up the stock price.
thats great. Thanks.
Engine/motor power has relatively little to do with towing capacity. That’s why the Ford Raptor, with the most powerful gas engine, has the lowest towing capacities of any F-150. Towing capacities are more affected by suspension/brakes/frame, etc.
So? I’m well aware of what it takes to engineer a vehicle to tow various weights. This reduced towing capability is an intentional decision to not focus on utility.
This is a small car. Many similar ICE vehicles would be specked out at less than that, and in general towing near limits is not ideal. Maybe towing a 3,500 pound boat/trailer would be okay.
Also, over 3,500 pounds you’re getting into an area where you really should have a seven pin trailer outlet for electric brakes. I doubt they want to offer that given how few customers would want it.
Bottom line, if you want to tow more you really should get a better tow vehicle.
No power outlet in the back, or anywhere else? WTF?
I’ll bet they intentionally left an inverter out of it so they could sell you their GM Energy products.
There are two accessory outlets. Old cigarette lighter lighter style which will power anything with an attachment??
If you haven’t seen it in person and you haven’t driven it and used the infotainment system which is spectacular! And also know the special deals they have with owners of electric cars as well as other rebates Costco owners! Why are you commenting on here? I’ve been with Chevy for almost 30 years and this is honestly one of the most impressive vehicles we have ever had! That’s including the just amazing Traverse and the ridiculously great value the Trax! I’m not lying as someone who has driven and seen in person and used the new infotainment system (which I add is fantastic! It does anything the other apps had and more and free for 8 years!) If you’re in the market for an EV this ride is just amazing!
