During the European debut of the all-new 2025 Cadillac Optiq in Paris, General Motors confirmed to the international press that Cadillac will launch its new EV business this year in the United Kingdom.
The top executive of the automaker’s European subsidiary has just revealed to Autocar that the brand will begin its all-electric vehicle offensive in the UK later this year when it will launch the new EV business in the continent’s second-largest automotive market. In fact, she revealed that the UK will have an important role in the American luxury brand’s international expansion strategy.
“The UK is a strategically important market for our operations. We’re currently in the process of defining our initial sales footprint in the UK and where we’re going to have our experience centres in the UK,” said President and Managing Director of GM Europe Jaclyn McQuaid. “By the end of 2024, we will have some very definitive announcements to make about Cadillac, including the possibility of a dealer roll-out,” she added.
The GM Europe leader’s remarks confirm GM Authority’s exclusive report in November about the brand’s expansion of its global reach with the right-hand drive Cadillac Lyriq, first introduced for the Australian and New Zealand markets. At the time, we concluded that the Lyriq’s new RHD configuration previewed a future introduction of the brand’s EV business in the UK.
The American luxury brand’s new EV business in the UK will launch with an initial range of two models configured as right-hand drive from the factory. This launch is planned for late Autumn, when the brand will launch the all-new 2025 Cadillac Optiq in the UK market for the first time in RHD form. This will be followed by the local launch of the Lyriq RHD, which could go on sale in the European nation even before Australia.
In addition, the high flexibility of the Ultium architecture will allow Cadillac to more quickly roll out more models from its growing electric vehicle portfolio in the UK. Alongside the compact Optiq and mid-size Lyriq, Cadillac will also build the all-new right-hand drive Vistiq to complete a zero-emission crossover offering across key market segments.
Cadillac’s new EV business in the UK is expected to be launched officially and formally in the coming months as the brand finalizes the details of its business strategy in the market. The announcement will also include news about the location of the first Cadillac City experience center in the nation, most likely in London.
