In addition to the new Buick GL8 PHEV recently launched in China, the SAIC-GM joint venture is also preparing the introduction of the upcoming Buick GL8 Century Hybrid – images of which have been leaked in the Asian country.
China’s government authorities recently released SAIC-GM’s future product statement with the first images and features of the upcoming Buick GL8 Century Hybrid, the first electrified fourth-generation variant of that country’s exclusive full-size MPV. The GL8 Century equipped with a conventional hybrid powertrain will join Buick’s flagship MPV range in the Chinese market.
The leaked images show that the upcoming Buick GL8 Century Hybrid will have basically the same look as the original gasoline-only variant, with some minor design adjustments that will differentiate it from the rest of the lineup. Exclusive details include a grille finisher with slightly denser horizontal chrome strips, specific alloy wheels and the Hybrid emblem below the rear nameplate badge.
In addition, the leak also allows us to see that the Buick GL8 Century HEV will be offered in two configurations with distinct design cues and varying equipment levels. Although the main images show the next GL8 Century Hybrid in base configuration, the design detail photo compilation reveals that Buick’s most modern MPV will also arrive in Avenir and Flagship finishes.
However, the main novelty of the upcoming Buick GL8 Century Hybrid is its powertrain, composed of a local variant of the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY engine, identified by RPO code LSZ, and an electric motor produced in conjunction with the General Dynamics Technology company. According to data provided by the Chinese government, the GL8 Century Hybrid’ propulsion system generates a combined 155 kW or 208 horsepower.
The upcoming Buick GL8 Century Hybrid is expected to officially debut in China in the coming months, when full details about the electrified MPV and its powertrain will be revealed. SAIC-GM is accelerating its product onslaught with fresh New Energy Vehicle (NEV) offerings, adapting to changes in customer demand and improving its level of competitiveness in the Chinese market.

Looks like you made a mistake and showed us pictures of the next JDM Toyota Sienna.
Sienna’s do not look this bad.
That’s pretty ugly, leave it in China.
What platform is this on?
Hard to believe Buick once made manly, stylish vehicles. This thing is an ugly turd like all modern Buicks.
My girlfriend is Chinese and she is beautiful. So is this car.
I like it, it’s a low earth orbit space station shuttle. They got a lot of style from a basic shape, and the front is…uhm…understated-ish…for its mission. Believe it or not but I think a few lights or accent doo-dads on that front grill would work well, and license plate needs to move off center and lower a little. Otherwise is a comfy looking tech-laden quality Buick. They sell a lot in China and, politics aside (hold comments please, I feel the same) there would be room to generate good sales in our country.
Dear Mary BARRA:
