Brand-New Chevy Trax T-Boned By Chevy Cavalier: Video

Buying a new car is exciting, and it’s always nice to keep that new ride as fresh as possible for as long as possible. Unfortunately for this Chevy Trax driver, they only had three months to enjoy their new crossover before it was totaled by another motorist, as seen in the following viral video.

According to the description, the video was captured in Houston, Texas, from a dash cam mounted inside the Trax.

Dash cam footage inside a Chevy Trax.

The dash cam provides a clear view of the accident. In the video, we see the Trax driver traveling along a broad, multi-lane street under cloudy skies. Despite good visibility, the footage depicts a critical moment of failure to yield the right of way.

As the Chevy Trax approaches an intersection, we see a red Chevy Cavalier approach from the left side of the frame. The Cavalier fails to slow down or stop, and although the Trax driver attempts to avoid the collision by swerving slightly to the right, it’s too little, too late. The Cavalier strikes the Trax on the driver’s side, hitting the crossover with enough force to cause the Trax to swing sideways and roll over.

According to the description, the Chevy Trax driver had purchased their new crossover three months prior to the accident, and had just made their third car payment an hour before the collision occurred. The Trax driver walked away from the crash unscathed while the occupants in the Chevy Cavalier were transported to the hospital. Emergency crews ended up breaking the rear window of the Chevy Trax to help the driver escape. The video description also states that the Chevy Cavalier driver was uninsured and driving on an expired license.

While some video commenters state that the Chevy Trax driver could have avoided the accident, it’s not entirely clear this is the case, given the number of vehicles in the intersection. It seems as though it’s common for vehicles to cross the intersection while yielding to oncoming traffic, but unfortunately, the driver in the Cavalier failed in the latter respect.

  1. Of course the Cavalier driver was uninsured and unlicensed. It’s Houston! Probably an illegal. Actually surprised the Trax rolled. It’s not THAT tall.

    1. It looks like the rear tires clipped the curb as it was sliding sideways, causing it to roll. Videos like this one show just easy things can go wrong fast.

  2. Because the Trax is brand new.

  3. Video? Nothing is there. Clicking on the link only takes you to a bunch of gibberish.

Why post a video and do an article about it if you have to be part of instagram (or whatever) to see it?

    1. Don’t click on embed.js. Click on the sentence above it entitled, “A post shared by Dashcam Nation 🇺🇸🇨🇦 (@dashcam.nation)” and it should let you see the video without an Instagram account.

      1. Ah. Thank you Richard P. Appreciate it.

Didn’t help me much as it doesn’t seem to show much for evidence.

  5. I would hope that the Cavailer driver gets the book thrown at them. Of course, they will complain that their rights are being violated. If the Trax had hit their car they would have gone to see a lawyer asap! I am glad that the Trax driver is OK. Even though the Trax is a piece of crap it stinks that the vehicle was totaled.

    1. I am about to buy 2022 trax… This is the second time I have read something about how they roll over. I don’t believe I’ll be buying this car?

  10. Oh the irony! The new Trax basically fell apart after being hit by the Cavalier. Not at all impressed by the amount of damage inflicted upon the new school Trax by a lighter weight old school Cavalier. The Trax is now a irreparable write-off, while the Cavalier will probably live on to drive another day.

    1. It was T boned and rolled over… you clearly have unrealistic expectations. No insurance company would fix that. Side impacts like the one this Trax endured, compromise so much structure of the car and are way to expensive to be fixed by insurance companies.
