2025 Chevy Silverado HD Gets Reduced Midnight Edition Availability

Just one model year removed from the 2024 mid-cycle refresh, the 2025 Chevy Silverado HD will bring about minor changes for the Bow Tie brand’s heavy-duty (HD) pickup truck. With that in mind, one of these updates concerns the reduced availability of the Midnight Edition.

For reference, the Midnight Edition (RPO code WJP) package has been offered on the Silverado HD since the 2016 model year and just recently became available for the range-topping High Country trim level for the 2024 model year. Moving forward, this dark-themed package will be dropped on the LT and LTZ models for the 2025 model year, meaning that it’ll be exclusively offered on the High Country trim.

It’s worth noting that while the mid-range LT and LTZ trim levels may be losing the Midnight Edition package, they do gain the Trail Boss package.

When equipped on 2025 Chevy Silverado HD High Country examples, the Midnight Edition package includes the following content (relevant RPO code in parentheses):

  • Black grille bar with Chevy Black Bowtie
  • Black grille inserts
  • Black skid plate
  • Black badging
  • Black Bowtie on horn pad
  • Gloss Black mirror caps (DP6)
  • Black hood vent surround
  • Black power-retractable assist steps, LPO (B3L)
  • Black Metallic (Midnight Haze) Door Body Side Moldings
  • Painted door handles (D75)
  • Animated taillamps
  • 20-inch High gloss Black painted wheels (SRI)
  • LT275 / 65R20 blackwall off-road tires (QFG) or standard LT275 / 65R20 all-terrain blackwall tires (QF9)

Buyers can upgrade to 22-inch Gloss Black aluminum wheels (RPO code SBL) with LT265 / 60R22 E all-terrain blackwall tires (RPO code XGD) on 2500 HD trucks. Meanwhile, 3500 HD pickups can’t be configured with both the dual rear wheels and dark-themed appearance package.

Finally, opting for the Midnight Edition requires choosing the Black (color code GBA) paint color and the Jet Black (color code HXC) interior colorway. In addition, the aesthetic package can’t be ordered in conjunction with the LPO / dealer-installed Dark Essentials Package (RPO code PDB). Pricing isn’t available yet, but the package did cost $1,985 for the 2024 Silverado HD.

As a reminder, the 2025 Chevy Silverado HD will be powered by the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, rated at 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, as standard fare, while the optional 6.6L L5P engine, rated at 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque, will remain available. Regardless of powerplant choice, both engines will be mated to the Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission.

Under the skin, the Chevy Silverado HD rides on a more capable variant of the GM T1 platform. Production of the upcoming 2025 model year is currently scheduled to kick off on July 29th, 2024.

  1. With this and prior Trail Boss announcements for 2025 MY, has Chevy announced that the Z71 Sport Edition Package will also be killed for 2025? Seems a little useless with the New Trail Boss HD.
