2024 GMC Canyon Recalled For Noncompliant Park Lamp Function

The 2024 GMC Canyon is included in a Noncompliance Recall issued by General Motors for certain affected trucks that were produced with a parking lamp function that is not in compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108. A fix available from dealership service is also described.

The problem: affected 2024 GMC Canyon pickups may have a condition in which the tail lights, license plate light, and side marker lamps turn off while the vehicle’s parking lights remain illuminated when the driver switches the master light control from Auto to Off.

The hazards: the condition in which parking lamps remain illuminated on the affected GMC Canyon but the taillights, license plate light, and side marker lamps switch off is in violation of federal motor vehicle safety standards. The truck is noncompliant with federal safety law until the condition has been corrected.

The fix: repairing the condition leading to the recall does not require any components. Authorized GM dealerships can apply the fix by reprogramming the Body Control Module (BCM) with correct lighting function.

Affected components: Body Control Module (BCM).

As a reminder, the 2024 GMC Canyon got several changes and updates from the refreshed 2023 model year. These include the introduction of a high-performance off-roader variant, the Canyon AT4X AEV Edition. Motivation is supplied by the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, now tagged with the TurboMax branding for the 2024 model year.

For structure, the Canyon is underpinned by an updated variant of the GMT 31XX platform, with production taking place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

  4. This was the first GM plant to go on strike, correct? The rollout of the Colorado/Canyon for the 2024 model year has been terrible with many quality issues. Coincidence, who knows? Thought the new contract would make for more content workers.
