2024 GMC Canyon Gets New Sports Bar Package

Whereas the 2023 model year saw the introduction of the next-gen 2023 Canyon, the following 2024 model year featured just a few updates for Big Red’s midsize pickup truck. With that in mind, the 2024 GMC Canyon will soon be available with a new sports bar package.

The 2024 Canyon will receive the LPO or dealer-installed Sports Bar Package (RPO code PCK) soon. As of the time of this writing, this package isn’t quite available yet, and pricing details have yet to be released. However, it’ll include the following content (relevant RPO code in parenthesis):

  • Bed mounted sports bar, LPO (SBY)
  • 40-inch Off Road Roof Light Bar, LPO (S3X)

It’s worth noting that this package also requires opting for the Power Distribution Box (RPO code VBP) and the Accessory Switch Kit, LPO (RPO code VZJ), and is only offered on Elevation, AT4 and AT4X trim levels. This means that Denali and AT4X AEV Edition (RPO code XEV) units are not compatible with the Sports Bar package.

In other GMC Canyon-related developments, Big Red’s midsizer saw a notable rise in sales over the course of Q1 2024. More specifically, the Canyon posted a 9.3-percent increase to 5,484 units. Outside of the Canyon’s platform mate – the Chevy Colorado – the only other midsize pickup truck to post a sales jump during the same timeframe was the Nissan Frontier.

Under the hood, the current 2024 Canyon is available with the TurboMax turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine as standard across the entire trim lineup. Rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, this powerplant is mated to the second-gen GM eight-speed automatic transmission. As for drivetrain configurations, 2WD is standard on the Elevation, while 4WD is equipped as standard across every other model, yet also offered on the Elevation.

In regard to structure, the Canyon is underpinned by an updated variant of the GMT 31XX platform – which it shares with the aforementioned third-gen Colorado – while production takes place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

  1. What I would like to see ,Is Gm offer the 5.3 V8 in the Mid size trucks ,It gets better gas milage In the full size Silverado LT and Sierra ,Then the 2,7 does in the Colorado and Canyon ! Maybe add the next generation 6 Small Block V8 . Why Not?

  2. What’s that you say? A “sports bar package”? I’ve always wanted a sports bar. Hopefully this includes unlimited wings and discounted draft beers during happy hour. Maybe this is why GM has been adding all these giant video screens to their vehicles!! **end sarcastic comment**

    1. No ChevyTruckman , I made the comments on this Sport package and not about stupid bars . What GM need to do ,Is pay attention to the Competition in what they are doing to improve gas mileage and Power ! The Tacoma and the Ranger are doing better ,then Colorado and Canyon at these point ! By the way I am a 2015 Chevy Colorado LT owner.

  3. I’ve been purchasing parts for some time. I have the bar and the junction bo for the light bar so far. I haven’t ordered the light yet because I don’t know if it will fit in my garage without hitting the top of the door. Could someone tell me how many inches between the top of the cab and the top of the light bar please? I can’t seem to get an answer from anyone. I have a 23 Colorado ZR2. Thanks!
