Back in March 2023, GM Authority reported that the Chevy Tahoe and Chevy Suburban were unable to be ordered with the illuminated door sill plate feature due to a parts constraint. Now, after over a year of unavailability, the 2024 Chevy Tahoe and 2024 Chevy Suburban can be optioned with this feature once again.
GM Authority has learned that the LPO or dealer-installed illuminated door sill plate (RPO code S0M) feature is on offer once more after being under constraint since February 2023. Available for an extra $675, this feature is offered on the LT, RST, Z71, Premier and High Country trim levels, but not the entry-level LS trim.
Interestingly, this means that the Illumination Package, LPO (RPO code RGL) is available again as well. This $1,195 package includes the following content (RPO code in parenthesis):
- Illuminated mirror Chevrolet emblem, LPO (S3I)
- Illuminated front door sill plates, LPO (S0M)
- Illuminated liftgate sill plate, LPO (5RU)
It’s worth noting that this package is offered on LT, RST, Z71, Premier and High Country models, but not “base” LS examples. Beyond that, LT, RST and Z71 units must option the Luxury Package (RPO code WPL) beforehand, which costs $2,525 on LT and Z71 units, as well as $3,025 on RST trim levels.
As a reminder, both the current 2024 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban models boast the same powertrain lineup, consisting of the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87Â gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine, rated at 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.
The GM 10-speed automatic transmission is mated to all three engine options, while both 2WD and 4WD are on offer.
Under the skin, the two Bow Tie full-size SUVs ride on the GM T1 platform, which is shared with the GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade, and Cadillac Escalade ESV. Production takes place at the GM Arlington plant in Texas.
Looking forward, production of the refreshed 2025 Tahoe and 2025 Suburban will commence later this year.
