Back in December 2023, GM Authority reported that the 2024 Chevy Silverado MD was offered with an infotainment system upgrade following a period of unavailability. Now, it appears as though the uplevel system is once again no longer available for select models of the Bow Tie brand’s workhorse.
GM Authority has learned that the Chevrolet Infotainment System with eight-inch touchscreen (RPO code IO5) option is currently unavailable to order on the 1WT trim level of Medium Duty (MD) Silverado trucks, which includes 4500 HD, 5500 HD, and 6500 HD models.
It’s worth noting that the IO5 audio system is equipped as a standard affair on the 1LT trim level and remains as such despite its unavailability on the 1WT trim.
When buyers purchase a Silverado MD with the IO5 feature, the work truck includes:
- AM / FM stereo with seek-and-scan and digital clock
- Bluetooth handsfree calling and streaming audio with select phones
- Wired phone projection via select third-party apps
- USB ports
- Auxiliary jack
- Voice-activated technology for radio and phone
- The ability to browse, select, and install apps, including Pandora, iHeartRadio, The Weather Channel, and others
When ordered on a 1WT example, the package also includes (relevant RPO code in parenthesis):
- Single-slot CD player (TG5)
- Six-speaker speaker system on Regular Cab (UQ3)
- 4.2-inch diagonal Driver Information Center (UDD)
- Leather-wrapped steering wheel (NP5)
- Steering Wheel Audio Controls (UK3)
Until the IO5 audio system returns, 1WT buyers can either use the base audio system (RPO code IO3), which features a basic 4.2-inch display, or upgrade to the recently added midlevel audio system (RPO code IOR).
As a reminder, the 2024 Chevy Silverado MD is standard equipped with the 6.6L V8 L5D turbodiesel Duramax engine, rated at 350 horsepower and 700 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, an Allison six-speed automatic transmission directs output to the wheels through a 2WD or 4WD drivetrain configuration.
Under the skin, the Silverado MD rides on a platform jointly developed by Navistar and GM, while assembly takes place at the Navistar plant located in Springfield, Ohio.
