Following the 2023 model year refresh, the 2024 Chevy Colorado pickup introduces more changes and updates. It also features multiple driving modes so that drivers can tailor their vehicle’s performance to the tasks or needs of the moment and achieve better results.
Here, we’re giving providing an overview of all the driving modes available on your 2024 Chevy Colorado, along with the best situations in which to use them or, in some cases, when to change to a different mode.
Entering Driver Control Mode enables us to pick from several different drive modes to suit our current situation and expected driving needs. Turning the Mode knob on the center console, to the left of the shift lever, enables clicking through the available modes on the Colorado. Each mode is indicated by a unique icon on the infotainment display, with the exception of the default Normal Mode.
The information icon on the screen can be selected for each mode, providing more info on the mode, which is also described in more depth in the user manual for the 2024 Chevy Colorado. Here are the available modes:
- Normal Mode
- Off-Road Mode
- Terrain Mode
- Tow/Haul Mode
- Baja Mode
Normal Mode
The default mode for the 2024 Chevy Colorado is Normal Mode, which is always active at startup (with the exception of Tow/Haul Mode, which carries over if it was active within 4 hours). This mode provides good handling and good comfort levels suitable for everyday driving under normal conditions.
Off-Road Mode
Enhancing the function of a number of tech features and systems for better performance at low to medium speed on irregular, loose surfaces such as the open ground, trails, dirt, gravel, mud, or snow, Off-Road Mode changes the steering, transmission shift points, and pedal response. The Antilock Brake System (ABS) is modified to shorten stopping distance on loose dirt, gravel, mud, and so on.
The function of four-wheel drive, Electronic Stability Control, and Traction Control System is also modified to make the truck be more stable and develop more traction on unpaved surfaces.
Terrain Mode
Terrain Mode offers an enhanced off-road performance for exceptionally challenging situations such as rock crawling. The mode engages one-pedal driving during which the Chevy Colorado applies the brakes automatically when you ease pressure on the gas pedal. The aggressiveness of brake response is increased when the vehicle is in Low gear. The truck will also hold on an upslope until the accelerator is pressed again so that it will not roll backwards down the incline.
Several conditions, including but not limited to overheated brakes or transmission, will cause the 2024 Chevy Colorado to automatically exit Terrain Mode and return to Normal Mode.
Tow/Haul Mode
Steering, pedals, transmission shift points, ABS, ESC, TCS and Trailer Sway Control all have their function modified to provide maximum stability and control while pulling a heavy trailer by Tow/Haul Mode. As noted above, Tow/Haul stays active for four hours after the pickup is shut down, after which the mode reverts to Normal at startup.
Baja Mode
Included only with the Chevy Colorado ZR2, Baja Mode is exclusively for off-road use and should be switched off once the truck returns to pavement. The mode boosts responsiveness at high speeds to enable driving fast over firmly packed sand, gravel, hard dirt, and similar substrates. Stopping distances are also shorter on soft surfaces than in other modes. Rear lockers are locked at all speeds.
Customization options for drive modes are shown in the following table:

The best system they ever had was the one they have now. 2wd or 4wd low, 4wd auto and 4wd lock.
The 4wd auto is amazing in the winter, especially when on the hyway and the surface has icy sections
Do we really end all that drive modes ?
I got cash to buy one today but can’t get pass the 5 feet bed! Waiting on GM to go back with the 6 feet 2 inch bed again. My 2018 Extended cab just hauled a full mattress with tailgate closed and tonneau cover on through 12 hours of pouring rain. Can’t do that with a 5 foot bed! I hauled wood 6 feet long and a washer and dryer with inches to spare too!
can anyone explain to me how to shift so the vehicles can be flat towed?
my truck is a 2024 Z71 Canyon ZR2.
it does have a neutral position and 4 wheel low.
I TOO!!! Would like to know how to shift a 2024 Colorado Bison so that it can be flat towed.
