If you just want it to work, then GM’s LS V8 engine is the way to go. With gobs of power and torque, plus bulletproof reliability, there’s a reason that “LS Swap All The Things” is a meme. Now, it looks like the folks at TLC4X4 got the memo, as evidenced by the custom 1997 Toyota Land Cruiser build seen in the following feature video.
This particular 1997 FZJ80 Toyota Land Cruiser was sourced locally in North Carolina but had previously spent the majority of its life in California. The truck was also serviced at the same Toyota dealership during that time. The meticulous maintenance ensured the vehicle was in top condition when it rolled into TLC4X4.
Nevertheless, the restoration process began with a complete frame-off approach. The body was sandblasted, and the frame and axles were powder-coated for durability.
Finished in Imperial Jade Green with Mystic Gold flares, the Land Cruiser maintains a classic early ‘90s look. The truck also features upgraded LED headlights and taillights while retaining a factory appearance. Retro wheels shod in 33-inch Kenda tires complement the exterior, and the original side steps and roof rack have been restored to complete the styling.
As for the powertrain, TLC4X4 equipped this 1997 Toyota Land Cruiser with the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LS3 engine. Previously found in GM OEM products like the Chevy Camaro and Chevy Corvette, the LS3 is rated from the factory at roughly 430 horsepower and 424 pound-feet of torque, depending on the application. This particular LS3 is paired with a 4L65 transmission. A custom in-house intake system and reused OEM radiator with a custom shroud and electric fan ensure optimal performance and cooling. The exhaust system includes GM catalytic converters, leading to a full stainless steel setup.
The vehicle is also equipped with OME springs and Fox shocks for superior off-road handling. The braking system features DBA rotors and pads along with new OEM calipers.
Inside, the Land Cruiser boasts light tan leather seats with plaid inserts, recalibrated OEM gauges, a JVC head unit, custom door panels, and an Alcantara-covered headliner. The stereo system includes Kicker KX series components with a subwoofer and amplifier.
Now, this custom, LS-powered Toyota Land Cruiser is listed for sale on Facebook. Anyone interested can watch the feature video below to see this unique build in action and learn more about its comprehensive upgrades:

“If you just want it to work” is a curious thing to say about a well maintained and functioning Toyota Land Cruiser with an un-needed LS swap.
I think a better article might be why someone put an LS in a Toyota instead of buying a Tahoe and restoring that.
That’s one way to get an Old TuRD to run reliably
