At the end of the day, cars are just nuts and bolts and metal, and as such, fixing things is usually only a matter of time and money. That said, building a custom vehicle is a whole lot better if you start with something clean. Such is the case for this 1969 Chevy Chevelle SS, which was a pristine, rust-free original before it underwent a thorough high-end restomod treatment with four-digit power under the hood.
As highlighted by the folks at AutotopiaLA, this Chevy Chevelle was created by RestoMods, a shop based in San Diego with a focus on – you guessed it – restoring and modifying classic cars. The car wasn’t built for a customer, but rather, it’s offered as the grand prize in a giveaway, and as such, the crew had total freedom to create something amazing.
This particular Chevy Chevelle SS was initially discovered in San Diego with just 50,000 original miles, no rust, and intact original panels and paint, making it an ideal candidate for a high-performance transformation. The heart of the beast is a supercharged 427 LS engine from BluePrint Engines, which is equipped with forged internals and a Magnuson supercharger. The 427 is tuned to operate on pump gas, but can churn out four digits on the right fuel.
Interestingly, the vehicle retains its original chassis, now fortified with additional bracing and a RideTech Tiger Cage to ensure rigidity. The suspension system has been upgraded to include QA1 components with tubular arms and dual adjustable coilovers, making it capable of handling the enhanced power.
Externally, the Chevelle SS sports a fresh coat of Porsche GT silver paint, applied after stripping the original gold paint to bare metal. The choice of this particular color was inspired by the striking appearance of the Chevelle SS in raw metal, which beautifully complements the car’s new, muscular aesthetic.
The transmission system includes a robust Silver Sport Magnum six-speed manual paired with a dual-disc clutch and a nine-inch Ford rear end, designed to manage the output effectively. It rides on American Racing forged wheels, measuring 18 by 9.5 inches at the front and 18 by 11 inches at the rear, wrapped in 315mm wide Falken Azenis tires. Braking is handled by large Wilwood brakes, part of a manual setup that enhances the raw, tactile driving experience this car offers.
Inside, the car features Sparco carbon-backed seats with custom upholstery by RJ’s Upholstery, while the original headliner and door sills that have been preserved.
Despite its incredible power, the Chevelle SS is described as drivable and comfortable, with linear power delivery that makes it as suitable for show as it is for spirited driving. Check out the full feature right here:

Like a moth to a flame. Fantastic.
Still say GM missed the boat not bringing a retro version of the Chevelle back. Look at the success Chrysler has had with the Charger and Challenger.
Tastefully done. Performance appears to be traction limited, just as it should be.
I really really want this car. John
