1,800-HP Chevy Camaro Faces 1,500-HP Ford F-150 In Texas Shootout: Video

EVs can be quick, no doubt about it, but seeing some purpose-built drag racers scream down the quarter mile with a cloud of exploded dinosaur juice behind them is where the real fun is at. Luckily, that’s exactly what we get in the following video featuring a Chevy Camaro and Ford F-150.

Once again coming to us from the folks at Hoonigan, it’s a “This vs. That” shootout featuring two heavily modified vehicles with power levels deep into four-figure territory. You can be sure the fireworks will be flying in this one.

Let’s start with the 2020 Ford F-150 from Velocity Racing, which is equipped with a 5.0L sleeved engine and twin 7475 Precision turbochargers. Despite these significant upgrades, the truck retains the factory ECU. The Ford also features a performance TH400 R transmission, the right choice over the factory 10-speed when making big power. In this particular application, “big power” means about 1,500 ponies. Output hits the ground through all four wheels. Additionally, carbon fiber doors reduce the truck’s weight by approximately 60 pounds each.

Impressive stuff, but the competition is bringing the heat as well. Over in the other lane is a 1971 Chevy Camaro, nicknamed “Kraken” and featuring a 5.3L engine with a stock block, boosted by twin turbochargers and a healthy shot of nitrous to boost. This beast also runs alcohol and is equipped with proprietary heads. Peak output is estimated at 1,800 horsepower, all of which hits the rear tires through a Powerglide transmission and 28-by-10.5 tires mounted on Billet Specialties wheels. This Chevy Camaro is also running a tubular front end and ladder bar suspension. The wheelbase is factory, but the motor was moved back.

  1. Big difference between “estimated” “calculated” and “measured” HP figures.

  2. The Ford F-150 needed a GM produced transmission to handle that power. So GM wins in both vehicles. But a 1,500 HP electric car can beat both!
