Xfinity NASCAR Chevy Driver Throws Bumper At Rival: Video

Tempers often flare in the Xfinity Series, and it’s not entirely uncommon to see a driver chuck a helmet or gloves at a competitor after being wrecked. However, NASCAR Chevy driver Joey Gase took his frustrations to the next level at Richmond Raceway on March 30th, 2024, ripping off a piece of his own race car, marching down the track, and throwing it at the windshield of the driver he felt had wronged him.

On Lap 171 of the Xfinity Series race, Gase’s No. 35 Camaro SS was racing for the “Lucky Dog” position – that is, to be the first car one lap down – when he made contact with the No. 4 Camaro of Dawson Cram. Gase spun out and backed the No. 35 NASCAR Chevy into the wall, severely damaging the race car, including the rear bumper cover.

Gase exited the No. 35 NASCAR Chevy, ripped off the rest of the bumper cover with his bare hands, and carried it down onto the track as the rest of the field paced under caution. Then, with near perfect aim, Gase tossed the bumper cover at the windshield of Cram’s No. 4 Camaro.

“I hope you appreciate your souvenir,” Gase said on social media alongside a picture of his crashed Camaro, tagging Cram in the post.

Gase finished 34th, while Cram finished 25th. Meanwhile, the No. 81 Toyota TRD Supra of Chandler Smith went on to win.

  2. The rampant childish actions that now seem to be the NASCAR race standard are doing absolutely nothing for a sport that is quite honestly “struggling to exist,” needs to stop today.

    1. So yall complain when drivers don’t show passion, now yall complain when they do lol

    2. Agreed, “M”! These guys behave so childishly at times. The races seem to resemble demolition derbies, especially in the late laps of the races. Professionalism has been on the way out for a long time. F1 racing is the pinnacle of racing…you don’t see these types of antics in F1. Plus, the races don’t last half of the damn day!

      1. “you don’t see these types of antics in F1”

Per a quick search, F1 cars are $15-$20 million EACH. If I’m a team owner my drivers are gonna be cool-headed and professional, zero room for # like this.

  3. Mr. Gase should be permanently banned from racing. Unfortunately NASCAR lacks the balls to do that. Cheers!

  4. Drivers should be sanctioned for this type of behavior.

    1. my thoughts exactly, if dale earnhardt had done something like this, everyone would be like “Man they don’t make em like that anymore!!!!”

      1. That’s why ancient Romans went to watch gladiator’s and why people have gone to hockey games for decades. People (primarily men) like watching fights. I’m not saying it’s right but, it’s life!

  7. Didn’t a sprint car driver get hit and killed trying to do something like this a few years ago? Should be a large punishment coming this guy’s way.
