What’s The Difference Between The 2024 Chevy Traverse 1RS and 2RS?

The 2024 Chevy Traverse debuts the full-size crossover’s all-new third generation, once again offering a variety of trims tailored to different customer preferences and needs. However, the nuances between the 2024 Chevy Traverse 1RS and 2024 Chevy Traverse 2RS trim levels may be a bit confusing – in fact, several GM Authority readers have reached out asking what the difference is between the two. As such, GM Authority is shining a light what differentiates the 2024 Chevy Traverse 1RS from the 2024 Chevy Traverse 2RS.

Typically, different trim levels indicate a broad variety of equipment included as standard across a model line. For example, the Chevy Trax 1RS is not equipped with as many features as the Chevy Trax 2RS.

Interestingly, this is not the case for the third-generation Traverse, and in fact, there’s only one thing that distinguishes the 2024 Traverse 1RS from the 2RS – the drivetrain configuration. The 2024 Traverse 1RS model is equipped with front-wheel drive (FWD), while the 2024 Traverse 2RS is outfitted with all-wheel drive (AWD). Beyond the drivetrain, the 1RS and 2RS share exactly the same standard features, including exterior design, interior amenities, and technological enhancements.

It’s also interesting to note that this drivetrain distinction can be found in other 2024 Traverse trims, as well. For instance, the 1LS and 2LS trims also differ only in terms of FWD and AWD, respectively, similar to the 1LT and 2LT. With that in mind, anyone looking to purchase a new 2024 Traverse can tell their salesperson exactly which variant they want, based on whether they prefer FWD or AWD.

As GM Authority covered before, pricing for the 2024 Chevy Traverse starts at $38,995 for the 1LS trim level. Check out our previous coverage for more information.

Under the hood, all 2024 Traverse trim levels are powered by the turbocharged 2.5L I4 LK0 gasoline engine, which connects to the GM eight-speed automatic transmission. All model variants ride on the GM C1 platform. As for production, the 2024 Chevy Traverse is assembled at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan.

    1. We have the 1 limited RS 2024 and it’s AWD or has the choice to be AWD.

  2. I’m surprised Chevy doesn’t call it a 2025 model. Some 2025’s are already available, and we’re already almost halfway into the 2024 calendar year.

  6. I drove one yesterday finally. I was so disappointed. The vehicle itself is very nice. Although I did have a slight “Cheap” feeling when sitting inside looking at the interior. The worst part was the drive, The engine sounds like it is working so hard and makes so much noise that it ruins the entire driving experience. With any throttle input all you hear is than little engine hammering away up front. It has a very diesel-ish sound when driving. Scratched the Traverse off my list.

  7. Britt80 I think there was something wrong with the Traverse you test drove it can’t be louder then my Equinox Turbo 4 cylinder which is very quiet and has less sound suppression material. Further more every road test I read and said the traverse engine was quiet unless you where driving it like a 911 Turbo then yes the “Turbo” will sound a little loud. Whatever I imagine the new Buick enclave will be a nice quiet ride they usually have a much better interior then Chevy. Besides I think the interior in the traverse is fine all the Kia Tellujunk’s with their bad V6 engines yeah their interior is nice if you can drive it!

    1. The 2024 Traverse Limited is a carryover from the previous model year. The author is referring to the NEW model 2024 Traverse and it’s 1RS/2RS configurations. The Limited does not apply to this article.

  9. I saw a GMC Accadia on the freeway, 5 South near Oceanside.
    GMC has a winning design.

If you decide to buy a Highlander, Pilot, or Telluride, and later come across a Chevrolet (assuming its design is as impressive as GMC’s), you might feel that you didn’t receive the full value for your money.
