We Render The Expected GMC Yukon XL EV Full-Size Electric SUV

Thus far, General Motors has unveiled quite a few all-electric vehicles underpinned by the GM BT1 platform, including the Chevy Silverado EV, GMC Sierra EV, GMC Hummer EV, and Cadillac Escalade IQ. As such, it stands to reason that future GM electric vehicles based on the same architecture will continue to bear similar names to their ICE-powered counterparts, so with that in mind, GM Authority rendered what our interpretation of the expected GMC Yukon XL EV may look like.

For reference, GM Authority has already created renderings of the Escalade IQ and the yet-to-be-revealed Escalade IQL. However, with the GMC Yukon EV, we took a different approach by basing the render on the GMC Sierra EV. As such, our Yukon XL EV boasts gobs of room in the third row, as well as plenty of cargo room behind the third row, without stretching the wheelbase too much.

Some further details include the fixed running boards, along with the removed bumper corner steps. We also imagined the rear pillars painted in black, creating a floating roof effect. Indeed, this render lives up to the GMC Yukon XL moniker by featuring a long and grandiose demeanor.

Side profile of a GMC Yukon XL EV rendering.

Of course, being based on the Sierra EV means this Yukon XL EV rides on the aforementioned GM BT1 platform. In addition, our rendering features the Sierra EV’s powertrain, which translates to 754 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque. This rating is good for a 0-60 mph sprint in 4.5 seconds. Motivation is draw from GM Ultium battery and twin GM Ultium Drive motor technologies.

It’s worth noting that these figures are based on the GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1.

Meanwhile, production would normally take place at the GM Factory Zero plant (née GM Detroit Hamtramck plant) in Michigan. Notably, this is the same facility that currently produces all GM EVs based on the BT1 architecture, while the GM Orion Plant in Michigan will start building Silverado EV and Sierra EV units in late 2025.

  1. In the first quarter, Ford lost $132,000 on each EV sold. How does that business plan work? GM claims they will start making money on EV’s in 2025. Newsflash, GM will never make money on EV’s. Come on Mary, tell the truth!

    1. This is not difficult to understand.

Ford is losing money on its EVs because both the Mach-E and Lightning sit on custom EV platforms that are not shared with any other model.

They did the opposite of what GM did with Ultium which was create an architecture that could be easily modified to whatever type of model was needed.

The basic architecture set-up is already sitting under six models in North America alone. That number will increase by the end of this year.
It’s all about economies of scale. Ultium was engineered to achieve that from the get-go.

    2. Yep, and there will be more losses. But the gov will come in and give them sum funds so they can continue this crazynezzz. I’ve owned a bunch of ‘Burbs over the years from a 1950 Chevy to my current 2022 Sub and I can tell you this, I’ll never take a long ride in an EV Suburban or Tahoe. We like to take long leisurely trips, not an over-stressed out worrisome crap of a vacation. It’s Gas vs EVil.

    3. Ford EV sales allow it to make money on its other products. Without those EV sales, Ford would have to pay more in either fines or EV credits.

      1. At losing $132k a pop, it may be cheaper just to pay the d@mn government the fines.

  2. Oh come on, can’t you make the side windows even smaller? This looks ridiculous with a long, short rear window and fairly normal door windows.

  3. Dad part is GM could probably sell four times as many of these EV only vehicles if they offered them in ICE and hybrid versions as well.

  4. They all seemed to have jump into this without planning, cost of repairs, charging stations etc. Now going back to hybrids

  6. Thank God I just bought my 4th Yukon before this EV crap was shoved dowm my throat!! I will NEVER buy one. It just isn’t practical in WY! They should be talking about hybrids in states like WY.

  7. Wow lots of oil companies cronies here. You are not forced to buy one stop all the gumbo jumbo. Hybrids are not for long term use. There batteries are small and fail quickly costing so much money to replace, in our shop we are doing thousands of Prius Batteries at 6k. They need oil changes, transmission changes, coolant changes, you have to wait at the pump lines and deal with peak oil prices. Full EV is the way to go. Far less maintenance. Saves you $50,000 in fuel in 10 years. Wow you guys need a massive education. I own V8 cars and love them but for my daily driver I far rather own a EV.
