Some 2024 GMC Hummer EV Units Need A Serial Data Gateway Module Replacement

General Motors has issued a Service Update for certain 2024 GMC Hummer EV Pickup and 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV units that may have a serial data gateway issue preventing correct software updates.

Tagged with service update number N242439940, some GMC Hummer EV trucks and SUVs may have a condition in which the Serial Data Gateway Module is not compatible with software updates, preventing them from being installed. Only properly trained technicians at an authorized EV dealer are instructed to apply the fix.

The remedy available for this serial data gateway module issue should be applied to GMC Hummer EV Pickup and GMC Hummer EV SUV units currently in dealer inventory, and on customer vehicles brought to the dealership for any reason. The fix consists of replacing the faulty serial data gateway module with a new component, and reprogramming the new module correctly.

The exact number of GMC Hummer units affected is not clear at this time. The fix is available until the expiration of each vehicle’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty period, and requires slightly more than half an hour to complete. Parts availability may be limited, so serial data gateway modules should not be ordered as shelf stock.

As a reminder, both current Hummer models are motivated by Ultium Drive motor technology, with Ultium batteries providing energy to the motors. The SUV has only a 20-module battery pack available, while the pickup can be equipped with either a 20-module or 24-module battery pack. Different trim levels have either two or three electric motors for propulsion.

In the case of the SUV, output is 570 horsepower for the 2X trim level and 830 horsepower for the 3X and Edition 1 trims. Meanwhile, for the Pickup, the 2 and 2X trim levels can generate 570 horsepower, while the 3X trim with the 20-module battery is rated at 830 horsepower and the 24-module battery configuration develops 1,000 horsepower.

Both versions of the EV are underpinned by the wide-body variant of the GM BT1 platform, while production is carried out at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan.

  1. The cell phone era of cars is here. Update after update.
The Best thing would be to replace the whole battery thing with an LS motor, put in a 10 speed add regular drivetrain and move on.

Its time congress mandated that vehicles must work without software, as in mechanically, in event of problems, one can still drive it home, like WW II style vehicles.
No complex control modules, just a mechanical vehicle
