Some 2023 Chevy Colorado And GMC Canyon Models Need Front Wheel Hub Bolts Replaced

GM has issued a Safety Recall for certain units of the 2023 Chevy Colorado and the 2023 GMC Canyon to address an issue with overtightened and potentially damaged front wheel hub bolts.

The problem: affected units of the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon may have had one or more hub bolts tightened on the front wheels tightened excessively during production. This likely deformed the bolts and made them less able to perform their function properly.

Owners of affected vehicles may be able to feel vibration and/or hear noise from one of the front wheels while driving if the bolts were incorrectly tightened and deformed during assembly.

The hazards: the deformed front wheel hub bolts may loosen over time while driving, or break under stress. Loosening or breaking of the bolts will increase the load on remaining bolts, potentially leading to their failure. If the damaged bolts come loose or break during vehicle operation, the driver may lose control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix: GM has instructed qualified service personnel to remedy the issue by replacing the left and right front wheel hub bolts on affected Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon units. Eight bolts are required to complete the repair, which requires slightly less than an hour.

The replacement is offered free of charge.
