GM Authority has obtained new images of the refreshed Nissan Frontier, capturing a pair of camouflaged prototypes undergoing testing. The Nissan Frontier serves as a direct competitor to GM’s Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon, and appears poised for an update aimed at keeping it competitive in a segment bustling with both all-new and refreshed rivals. The refreshed Nissan Frontier is expected to debut for the 2025 model year.
The current-generation Nissan Frontier was introduced in 2021 for the 2022 model year, debuting an updated design, new technology, and a redesigned interior. In addition to these changes and upgrades, the current-gen Frontier continues to ride on the same foundational architecture as its predecessor, albeit with substantial revisions. Notably, this approach mirrors that of the current third-gen Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon, both of which ride on a heavily revised version of the platform used in the previous generation.
Since the current-gen Frontier’s debut, several rival models have hit the limelight, including the third-gen Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon, the new Toyota Tacoma, and the new Ford Ranger.
The latest spy photos reveal two refreshed Nissan Frontier prototypes clad in black-and-white camouflage concealing the front and rear ends, suggesting that these are the areas where Nissan is focusing its updates with regard to styling revisions. The prototypes include a gray model with the same headlight design as the S, SV, and Hardbody trims, and a blue model sporting more refined headlights akin to those seen on the PRO-4X and SL trims.
Differences in grille design are also evident, showcasing a variation in mesh patterns and finishes and indicating a freshened face for the upcoming model year. Although the tail lights appear more or less unchanged, the rear end is expected to show off subtle changes to the rear lighting, as well as revisions to the tailgate as well.
No changes are expected under the hood, with the current 3.8L V6 engine set to carryover with the upcoming refresh. To note, the V6 is currently rated at 310 horsepower and 281 pound-feet of torque, and is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Further updates should include new paint options and new alloy wheel designs.

Halogen, huh
Looks like someone took the current model and put camouflage on it just to confuse everyone.
Its hard to believe this fugly, outdated truck is currently outselling the Colorado in 2024 by about 5000 units (nearly the total of Canyon sales).
Yeah until you realize the auto strike just ended and you could find GM mid sized trucks because the car Canyon simply plant is one of the plants Shut down first because of the strike
The strike ended a while ago and its still hard to find colorados/canyon on dealer lots. I have a ZR2.
Another example where market data is contradicting your personal opinion.
If by “outdated”, you mean it it has a roof that does not get dented when a car wash dryer blows on it, it doesn’t get a random dead battery, it doesn’t come with a cracked engine block from the factory, and all that other twins nonsense… then yeah. It may be “old fashioned”, but it has NONE of those gm-exclusive standard features. With all that in mind, it seems a real truck guy would prolly like a little old-fashioned quality. A long bed with the crew cab, an extended cab, a V6 engine… etc. etc., these are all ways the Nissan trumps gm’s brand new trucks. And why it sells!
This “fugly outdated truck” also doesn’t have the absolutely horrible reliability and quality control GM does. Beauty is subjective but calling it outdated is pointless. Ford used the same platform between some of their vehicles for 33 years, between 1979 and 2012. The platform is not an issue so it doesn’t need replaced.
Meh I still like how it looks regardless , curious about the tailgate stuff so far my 2023 is nice and I like the way it looks and drives
I love my 2022 SV, I’ve had it almost 3 years and I’m not ready to sell! It’s been very reliable and gets great fuel mileage.
Why no turbo engine? A low output 3.0 V6 TT with 325 hp, 375 lb-ft would be perfect for this truck.
While the Colorado and Canyon are the best looking in the segment in my opinion, the Frontier does have some things going for it. The N/A V6, foot operated emergency brake, actual switches and real tilt although not a telescopic wheel. I am a diehard GM guy but I would consider the Frontier.
I couldn’t wait on GM to get in gear in early 2021 to make my Canyon, So I bought a Nissan SV, No Regrets, Cheaper than Chevy and I prefer to have a Naturally aspirated 6 cylinder engine.
This blue prototype has been running around Edmonton Alberta since the end of March. I seen it twice on. The Yellowhead but wasn’t able to get a picture.
I just bought my Arctic White 2024 pro 4x loaded with all available options. My first new vehicle I ever bought. I thought for sure I’d have buyers regret but none, this truck looks great and I don’t see hardly any others around. Tacos, Colorado’s jeeps everywhere I’m the only frontier in my town I think. That’s a good thing.
