Possible Refreshed 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning Spotted Testing

Recent spy photos have captured what appears to be a refreshed prototype of the 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning, hinting at possible updates and enhancements for a chief rival to the Chevy Silverado EV.

As reported by our sister publication, Ford Authority, the prototype was heavily camouflaged, particularly around the rear and undercarriage, suggesting significant modifications under the wraps.

The Ford F-150 Lightning, first introduced in 2022, has yet to undergo a formal refresh since its debut, unlike its internal combustion counterpart, which has followed a regular update cadence and was refreshed for the 2024 model year. As such, the sighting of this Ford F-150 Lightning prototype may point to improvements and changes just over the horizon for the all-electric F-150.

The prototype appears to be rolling on larger 24-inch wheels, as compared to the current Platinum trim’s 22-inchers, and features a lowered stance. This prototype is also equipped with “street sweeper” camouflage, which is typically employed to obscure changes to a vehicle’s undercarriage.

The hanging camo may indicate the presence of a new battery system or modifications to the electric motors. Per previous Ford Authority coverage, the F-150 Lightning is expected to offer a new lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery some time in the future, possibly as the new standard range battery option. LFP batteries are already in place under the Ford Mustang Mach-E, and don’t use cobalt or nickel in their construction. Additionally, LFP batteries are considered safer and less expensive than lithium-ion batteries.

It’s unlikely this prototype is for the 2024 model year, given 2024-model-year shipments are already underway, and judging by the photos, this prototype appears to differ from the Lightning Tremor prototype spotted previously, as well as the EV demonstrator slated for debut at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. 1. They need a refresh because not many people are buying them! So why not try that.

    1. That’s perfect- maybe Ford can eventually bankrupt themselves, and make GM Trucks even more expensive.
