Like-New 2002 Buick Century Up For Auction In California

A remarkably well-preserved 2002 Buick Century is up for grabs in a new auction. Located in Martinez, California, this Buick has less than 37,000 miles on the odometer and looks almost as good the day it rolled off the production line more than 20 years ago. This particular vehicle is also an example of Century’s final sixth generation, which officially sunset following the end of the 2005 model year.

A 2002 Buick Century available in a new online auction.

Outside, this 2002 Buick Century Custom is finished in Light Sandrift Metallic paint, matched with a beige interior, a color combination that emphasizes the classic Buick design. Under the hood you’ll find the naturally aspirated 3.1L V6 LG8 3100 gasoline engine, originally rated at 175 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. The V6 mates to a four-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels. The sedan also includes factory features like 15-inch wheels, dual-zone climate control, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and the premium Concert Sound II audio system.

This particular Buick Century has remained in California since its initial purchase, contributing to its well-maintained condition. It boasts a clean title and a detailed history with no reported accidents or mileage discrepancies. Also noteworthy is the car’s maintenance record, which includes recent updates like a new battery in 2021 and comprehensive brake service in 2020.

Despite its age, the Century shows minimal wear. There are some stone chips on the front end, light scuffs around the exterior, and minor dings on the doors and passenger-side quarter panel. Inside, the front seats show some creases and wear, and there’s a mark on the rear bench seat. The vehicle also has some stains in the hood’s sound deadening, and the driver’s-side rear window regulator is currently non-functional. Of course, these issues are minor considering the vehicle’s age and the level of upkeep demonstrated by its previous owners.

This Century is now being sold by a private party on behalf of a local charity, making this auction not just a chance to own a classic, but also an opportunity to contribute to a good cause.

As of this writing (4/19/2024), the current highest bid of four placed thus far is set at $4,000. The vehicle is offered at no reserve at cars and bids, while the auction is set to end on Tuesday, April 23rd.

  1. I saw this the other day and thought for a short minute about bidding. However, of all the colors, this was my least favorite of all. To make it worse, my ex-wife and I had a 1999 exactly like this one in the same color that she insisted we order. The nice thing about the color is it’s easy to keep looking clean. But that’s if or me. So after thinking about bidding, I decided no.

If something similar in a 1994 to 1998 Buick Skylark (especially the GS version) comes up, then I’m in.

  2. I owned a 2002 century custom, mine was green and had the alloy wheels, I enjoyed the vehicle however I traded it in 04 for a 3800 equipped IMPALA! In essence, I traded a Buick with a Chevy engine for a Chevy with a Buick engine! Anyone who buys this car should be aware that the 3100 V6 was prone to head gasket leaks! Make sure the coolant is fresh and DEX-COOL compatible, GM cars of that era had DEX-COOL related problems! Otherwise the Century is a VERY COMFORTABLE CRUISER that offers good milage!!
