Japanese automaker Honda is hurtling toward its battery powered future, debuting a pair of battery-powered concept vehicles at the 2024 Consumer Electronics show with sights set on an all-electric lineup by 2040. Since then, Honda has announced that it’s well into the process of establishing its “EV Hub” in North America, where things are on track to start pushing an electric sedan off the assembly line as soon as 2025.
The EV Hub is based in Marysville, Ohio, which will handle the production of an all-electric Honda 0 Series sedan. Honda already has an established plant on site and has invested $700 million to transform it into an EV production facility. The automaker has consolidated its production lines to facilitate the production of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles alongside battery electric vehicles (BEV). The material consolidation area was also overhauled on site, creating a new workspace for more than 300 employees to assemble the Intelligent Power Unit (IPU), which houses Honda EV batteries and serves as part of its vehicle platform.
“We have made clear: our journey to the electrified future is well under way, with our first all-electric SUVs on sale now,” said Jennifer Thomas, Senior Vice President of Honda Corporate Affairs. “Yet, we never believed that a once-in-a-hundred-year transformation would happen at the flip of a switch. Rather, Honda is transitioning to EVs based on a thoughtful, customer-focused strategy.”
She added, “Recently, the news about electric vehicles has focused on slowing consumer demand and concerns about affordability. As with any fundamental technology shift, the transition to new tech is never a straight line. There are bound to be speed bumps along the way. However, these speed bumps haven’t affected the overall trajectory of our plans.”
The yet-unnamed sedan will debut as a 2027 model-year vehicle, and its design will be based on the recently revealed Saloon concept. Production is expected to kick off in late 2025 at the Marysville plant.

This isn’t part of Ultium is it?
It is not. Honda is only building the Prologue and the Acura ZDX using GMs Ultium platform.
