The 2025 GMC Canyon represents the third model year of the midsize pickup truck’s third generation, soldiering on without significant updates or changes since its generational changeover. Now, GM Authority has learned when production of the forthcoming model year will commence.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the start of regular production (SORP) of the 2025 GMC Canyon will commence at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri on October 28th, 2024. Please note that this date is tentative and is subject to change at any time.
As a reminder, the GMC Canyon received a complete overhaul for the 2023 model year, introducing a slew of changes and updates for the midsize pickup. It features a taller and wider footprint than its second-generation predecessor, increasing its approach, departure, and breakover angles. Inside, it boasts a completely redesigned cabin, with a standard 8-inch digital instrument cluster for Elevation and AT4 trims and an 11-inch instrument cluster for Denali and AT4X trims.
As for power, the GMC Canyon exclusively boasts a single powertrain configuration: the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. The base Elevation trim features RWD as standard, while 4WD is available on the Elevation and standard on the AT4, AT4X, and range-topping Denali trim levels. The Canyon rides on an updated variant of the GMT 31XX platform.
It’s worth noting that both the 2024 GMC Canyon and its cousin, the 2024 Chevy Colorado, were subject to a stop-sale order that was only recently lifted. The stop-sale order was related to “intermittent software quality issues” discovered during the vehicle validation process. A fix was identified and implemented, and now the 2024 Canyon and Colorado are shipping to dealers. However, the stop-sale order never affected the production of the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon.

The Canyon looks like it has some Mitsubishi Outlander designing built into it with the front headlight placement.
I wonder what availability will be like?
When are we going to see something on the possibility of the Syclone coming back? Tomg
The Canyon technology isn’t as sophisticated as other vehicles. Lane departure, adaptable cruise control doesn’t work very well. GM continues to ignore home link features. The 4 cylinder engine doesn’t get the gas mileage that my 2015 Canyon with a v-6 achieved.
Overall, I’m disappointed in the new Canyon and the lack of interest in improving the truck.
Dan – I take it you have inside knowledge on any 2025 quality improvements or RPO option changes?
Awesome truck I own one love it
Why announce the 2025 when the 2024 still not available. Ordered a Colorado 1/24. Told it still has construction constraints
If there where a nice selection on the lots I would have bought on by now.
