Here’s The Fastest Turning Chevy Tahoe, Suburban Engine On Dealer Lots

GM’s full-size SUVs are unique for their segment in offering a diesel engine option, and sales figures for the 2024 Chevy Tahoe and 2024 Chevy Suburban show it’s the vehicles that cradle the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine that are the fastest-turning on dealership lots.

This means that Chevy Tahoe and Chevy Suburban units that are motivated by the turbodiesel engine are the ones that spend the shortest amount of time on the lot before being purchased.

Sales figures for the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban show the Bow Tie brand’s SUVs are still dominating their market segment despite a recent 23-percent drop in sales. Together, the two models sold approximately double the number of the next most popular full-size SUV, the Ford Expedition, in Q4 2023.

With diesel engine configurations of the Tahoe and Suburban flying off the lot faster than gasoline models, the availability of this popular powerplant may show one of the more significant reasons why the two SUVs outsell not only the Ford Expedition, but also the Jeep Wagoneer, Toyota Sequoia, and Nissan Armada.

GM plans to continue offering a diesel engine for both the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban into the 2025 model year. However, the 2025 Chevy Tahoe and 2025 Chevy Suburban will get the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine instead of the current LM2, boosting horses by 10 percent to 305 horsepower and torque by 7.6 percent to 495 pound-feet. The LZ0 was originally debuted on the Chevy Silverado 1500.

As a reminder, the 2024 Tahoe and Suburban are also offered with two gasoline powerplants, including the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine cranking out 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, and the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine developing 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.

The first 2025 Tahoe and Suburban units off the assembly line will all be produced with gasoline engines, with the new LZ0 turbodiesel to follow later in the model year.

Both SUV models utilize the GM T1 platform as their underpinnings, with the GM Arlington plant in Texas as their production site.
