Here’s How To Use The 2024 Cadillac Lyriq’s Deployable Door Handles: Video

All the way back in July 2022, GM Authority reported that the Cadillac Lyriq would eventually receive actual door handles in lieu of the electronic buttons that filled the role for the 2023 model year. Well, the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq was highlighted with such a feature in the form of deployable door handles, and here’s a video on how to use them.

For reference, the 2023 Lyriq doesn’t have physical door handles, as they’re just big buttons masquerading as such. When pushed, these buttons simply unlatch the door. From there, the occupant must grab the winglet at the base of the pillar to swing the door open.

As one may expect, this made ingress a little different for Caddy’s all-electric luxury crossover as compared to other vehicles. Never worry, as General Motors introduced the deployable door handles for the 2024 model year, which work in a more familiar fashion. Mounted almost flush with the door panel, these illuminated handles will pop open when an individual approaches while carrying the EV’s keyfob.

It’s worth noting that the winglets were removed upon introduction of these physical door handles.

As a reminder, the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq saw a few other notable changes, including the arrival of the all-new Tech trim level and the addition of the power panoramic dual-panel sunroof (RPO code CAJ) feature.

In regard to powertrain specifications, the Lyriq RWD is powered by a single motor mounted on the rear axle, producing 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque, while the Lyriq AWD features a pair of electric motors – one per axle – that develop a combined 500 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque. Both models boast GM Ultium battery and GM Ultium Drive motor technologies.

As for range, the RWD variant features 314 miles on a full charge, while the AWD version gets 307 miles from a full charge.

Under the body panels, the Cadillac Lyriq rides on the GM BEV3 platform. Meanwhile production of the 2024 model year kicked off at the GM Spring Hill plant in May 2023.

  1. How did Cadillac turn into a station wagon brand??

    1. everything is a station wagon these days. Try and find a 2 door pickup truck in anything other than a base work truck trim. They all have 4big doors.

  2. Are those Dave Kindig door handles? Looks like they copied his.

  3. Are they heated so they melt snow and ice. Could be a problem calling 911 because you can’t get in your vehicle.

    1. Not much different with my volt handles freezing or god forbid the old button styles.

  4. can one have the doors left unlocked, handles closed and later still walk up to the car without the fob and push the handle for them to extend to open the door or must one always have the fob?

  5. I saw a 2024 LYRIQ in the Cadillac Showroom and all its down handles stuck out…. Looked ridiculous…. Even though I own a 2023 LYRIQ I didn’t have the slightest Idea of how to open the car doors, I wanting to look at the window sticker that was taken off and sitting on the seat.

People unfamiliar with my 2023 LYRIQ approaching it for the first time instinctively push the button, because you can’t pull on it, and the door coming out an inch or so surprises them, but then a second try makes them grab the door and open it,

GM keeps fixing things that aren’t broke, and coming up with goofy – and probably expensive – replacements.

Of course, that HORRIBLY OBTUSE dashboard which has next to ZERO TOUCH SENSITIVITY is still broke on all models through all updates. Amazing because all Touch Screens from GM, at least when new, operated flawlessly, from the 2011 VOLT onward.

And of course, I haven’t seen a SINGLE REVIEW of the car even mentioning this major defect.. Obviously I’ll live with it, but it rather shows how extremely little value there is in the reviews of this particular car. A second fault which was hinted to on the dashboard of this video for a split second was the ‘MASSAGING SEAT’ with 3 – excuse the expression – ‘POWER LEVELS’. You can barely feel it when on HIGH, – the medium and low settings being non-existent. I’ve sit in electric chairs before that have massage, and in this car its a joke. NO reviews of the car ever mention that either. The ventilated seats I also never use since the circulatiing fan in the seat is horribly noisy, and ruins the radio experience. Guess what? No mention of that either.

  6. This car will be an electrical nightmare in 5 to 8 years, if not sooner.

Those handles should be mechanical like the ones found on the 1969-1972 Pontiac Grand Prixs.

  8. I own a 2024 Lyriq and the door handles work exactly like they are suppose to. No problem whatsoever. They deploy when you approach the car with your key fob and they retract when you walk away. EZPZ.

    1. That is right. The missing consideration is handle opening time. That time opening should be adjustable. Leaving the handles open for five minutes is a safety hazzard. A 5 to 6 old child is eye level to the handles when open. When a Lyriq Is parked in a garage this becomes a major consern because of the limited access clearance. They are always in a hurry. This will become a major problem when a kid injures an eye as result from contacting a open door handle.

  9. Good idea Wade. Maybe in future software update we will have the ability to limit opening and closing time of the handles. Otherwise, my 2024 Lyriq Sport 3 AWD is a gem. I’mlovin’ it. I’m 75 years and have owned many different domestic and foreign brands and this car ranks at the very top for design and performance for a car in its class.
