The 2024 Chevy Silverado HD debuts the mid-cycle refresh for the fourth-generation heavy-duty pickup model, with significant changes including new exterior styling, an overhauled cockpit, the launch of the high-performance Chevy Silverado HD ZR2 variant, and updates to the engine lineup. Here, we’re looking in detail at the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD payload capacities.
Before listing the Silverado HD payload specs, here’s a look at the 2024 powerplant range that enables these cargo figures. The refreshed 2024 Chevy Silverado HD is motivated by two engine choices in total. For gasoline propulsion, the pickup gets the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine developing 401 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 464 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm.
On the diesel side is the optional 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine cranking out 470 horsepower at 2,800 rpm and 975 pound-feet of torque at 1,600 rpm. These specs show how the engine has been uprated from the previous version, which supplied 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque before the 2024 refresh.
Both engines are now paired as standard with the Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission. Before the refresh, only the diesel engine was mated to the 10-speed, and the gasoline engine was connected to the GM six-speed automatic transmission.
With all that covered, here is a full overview of 2024 Chevy Silverado HD payload capabilities for both the 2024 Silverado 2500 HD and the 2024 Silverado 3500 HD:

As this data reveals, the highest Silverado HD payload capacity is 7,290 pounds for a 2WD model, specifically the 2WD Regular Cab Long Bed DRW dually variant of the 2024 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD powered by the 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine.
Meanwhile, the lowest Silverado 2500 HD payload is 3,195 pounds hauled by the 4WD Crew Cab Standard Bed configuration of the range-topping High Country trim, when powered by the turbodiesel 6.6L V8 L5P engine.
These numbers introduce only minor changes from the 2023 model year. Every Silverado HD includes a vehicle-specific Trailering Information Label, which lists its unique trailering metrics including the trailering ratings to the max tongue weight, max payload and more.
For structure, the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD utilizes a more-capable variant of the GM T1 platform. Production takes place at the GM Flint Assembly plant in Michigan and the GM Oshawa plant in Canada.

It’s a good baseline table, but once you add options of any significance, payload will go down 200-500 lbs. I think most people know this, but just in case, he’s a real-world example:
I have 3,407 lbs payload on my 2024 Chevy 2500 LT, 6.6L gasser, crew cab, standard bed, 20″ tires, after almost all trim options added.
Really good, but nowhere near the 3,798 lbs listed in the table.
