GMC Sierra Extra Big Bed Debuts For Those Who Want A Real Work Truck

General Motors just unveiled a new variant of the GMC Sierra 1500 designed explicitly for work and hauling. Dubbed the GMC Sierra Extra Big Bed (EBB), the new variant of the full-size light duty pickup features a Regular Cab followed by an Extended rear end that effectively doubles the bed length of the “regular” Sierra 1500 Long Bed model. The Sierra EBB also incorporates additional standard features that enhance vehicle utility even further, while removing several “luxury” features to bring down the price.

GM says that the new GMC Sierra EBB was developed to meet consumer demands for a no-frills, no-compromise work vehicle.

Previously, several GM Authority readers have contacted us to express their desire for a truck like the new Sierra EBB:

“How about a no-frills truck for those who want to do real work?” asks GM Authority reader Emilio E.

“Here’s what I want from a GMC truck: small cab, very long bed and cheap,” writes GM Authority reader Chris P.

“Our customers spoke, and we listened,” said Global Vice President of Buick, GMC, and GMC Hummer EV, Ancan Hundred, during the April 1st debut of the new GMC Sierra EBB. “This vehicle once again places GMC at the forefront of the work segment that so many have been ignoring.”

“I just got tired of all the emails and forum posts from those who want a really basic truck for work,” he added.

In addition to an incredible 313.7-inch wheelbase, the GMC Sierra EBB also incorporates a range of features that enable customers to get the most from all the newfound bed space, including optional MultiPro tailgates. The MultiPro tailgates can be equipped not only at the rear of the truck, but also for the bed sides, enabling easy access from all angles. Additionally, folding front seats and a mid-gate feature combine to provide even more space, if needed.

Continuing the work focus, the Sierra EBB also deletes several “luxury features,” such as all cameras, the radio, power windows, power brakes, and electric engine starter. All Sierra EBB models are equipped as standard with a hand crank to manually start the motor, which conveniently stores away in a small cubby in the cabin. Even air bags are optional.

      1. The Photoshop looks crooked.

Maybe the tailgate latch being metal rather than plastic overloaded it.

      2. Ironically, you SHOULD offer a real work truck, with an 8′ bed, and bring back a manual transmission too! I might consider getting a new truck then.
When I bought my last Chevy truck (1999), which I still use everyday (290,000). I told the salesman, I want a 1 ton, crew cab, 8′ bed, 4×4, and a manual transmission. A real work truck. He laughed and said they only sold automatics. I laughed and said that you still offered a manual trans, and that unfortunately for him he’d have to look up the option number.
Come on guys. Offer the options again. No power windows either. Never had a wiring or motor issue with a hand crank. Basic necessities, no frills. Call it a “Utility Package”.
If you want some more imput I know a guy… ok, I’ve gotta get back to the real world.

  2. While this write up is nothing other than a joke, in reality I wish GM would allow customers to factory order regularly cab/standard box trucks in the higher trim package configurations. It’s stupid that it’s limited to the Work Truck/Pro Trim Configurations, as I like Bells and Whistles too.

    2. Amen! I have been saying this since they changed the body style in 2019. I had to drive 350 miles to get a used 2018 regular cab long bed in the LT. Wish they would still make them. The work truck and pro have such cheap front facias and low options.

  3. You could get a 9 foot bed on the 67-72 trucks

    1. When I was a Ft. Wayne Assembly years ago, we were told they were working on a 9 Footer again to compete for a U-Haul contract. I think Ford got it however…

  11. I just wish they would make the regular cab long bed in the upper trim level not just an ugly low option work truck like they used to build before the yuppies destroyed the trucks. The working man likes to have nice trucks too!!!

  12. 313.7 wheelbase for a ½ ton was way more than pictured. Ever here song give 40 avres and ill turn this around

    1. I never understood that song. I’m related to farmers, and 40 acres isn’t enough to live on, hasn’t been in forever. The trucker needed to keep driving his rig.

  15. gm wants customers to spend thousands more for the Crew Cab SLT, AT4 and Denali trim levels. In part, I do understand such a limited Cab option on those models because the majority of guys I know who buy them like that here in the US also have families who could ride along also. We know 2500 HD Reg Cab can now be purchased in SLE Trim, hopefully, the Next Gen. 1500 will have that option too.

  16. HAHA – yea some of us fell for it.
But there are some of us that had old single cab 8 foot bed trucks. Yes, had the family 1970 C10 Chevy up until early this year. So good to have a real truck to carry materials without hanging over the tailgate.
Yes, I have a 2001 Silverado LS with Suicide doors and 6 -6 bed and a 2018 four full size doors Texas Edition with 6-6 bed. I miss a full size bed.
I am not the only one out here.

    1. Standard box (6.6′) can still be had with the Double Cab and Crew Cabs… You can get a Standard box even on a High Country with a 6.2.

Long Boxes (8′) can still be had today with a standard cab – and with a 5.3L

    1. GM is missing out big time..I would like one with 2 doors and options. Not everyone wants a short bed. Ask any farmer/rancher

  20. Impossible to find a no frills, non chipped work truck with at least an 8 ft bed. GM always used to offer 9 ft. beds in 3/4 and 1ton versions. I have two of them. Can’t imagine trying to haul anything or get any work done with a 5 ft bed…

  29. I just wish GM would offer an extended cab with a 6.5 ft bed more often than the short beds.

  30. I bought a 2016 GMC Sierra from a dealer that used to be a Uhaul truck. Just the standard options, single cab 8′ bed plus what they added. Not an $80,000 luxury truck. I added a few things to make it look nice. Just right!
