Showing images of natural beauty and rugged adventure, a new video ad from Big Red bestows the title of “the Official Vehicle of Nowhere” on the 2024 GMC Canyon pickup, depicting the truck negotiating spectacular mountain scenery amid flowering alpine meadows, trout streams, and misty photogenic crags.
The distinctive baritone of actor Will Arnett provides the narration for the “Welcome to Nowhere” video ad, from the initial tagline to the sign-off statement of “nowhere is out there – good luck finding it.”
A 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X pickup outfitted with dealer-installed packages is the star of the ad, putting its numerous off-road features through their paces. The vehicle shown in the video is finished in Volcanic Red Tintcoat (color code GNT), one of the eight paint colors offered on the 2024 model-year pickup. Volcanic Red Tintcoat is an extra-charge option priced at $645.
The Canyon AT4X has an extensive list of cross-country equipment upgrades to make it better match its new sobriquet of the “Official Vehicle of Nowhere.” These include a 3-inch factory lift, 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory Mud Terrain (MT) tires, front and rear electronic locking differentials, Multimatic DSSV dampers, skid plates, rocker protectors, the Baja driving mode, and more.
As a reminder, a single powerplant motivates the 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X, specifically the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine. This engine has the High-Output tune dubbed the TurboMax calibration, which supplies a vigorous 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. The drivetrain includes an updated version of the GM eight-speed automatic transmission and 4WD as standard.
The maximum towing rating for most trim levels of the 2024 GMC Canyon is 7,700 lbs. However, the Canyon AT4X has almost a ton less towing capability, with a maximum trailering rating of 6,000 pounds.
The new ad isn’t the first use of the GMC Canyon’s hard-charging off-road variants in video advertisements. The AT4 lineup, including the Canyon AT4, was showcased in a summer 2021 ad. More recently, the GMC Canyon AT4X was featured in a “Mudern Artist” video showing mud splatters thrown up by its wheels onto canvas. You can view the latest video here:
The updated 31XX-2 platform provides the structure for the GMC Canyon AT4X and other trims. Production takes place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

Yes if only they could get the computer-radio and CarPlay to work right they would be in the here and now! Last two gm trucks and still the same problem . And of course they tell me nothings wrong and even if there is something wrong they can’t fix it

What engine would you prefer Dave? An Eco boost? A hemi? Maybe a 5.3 LS? Or the old 4.3L? That turbo charged 2.7 liter will become as venerable as the gen 3 LS or 350. Bet.
I think most car guys will agree that GM makes some pretty good engines through the years
I’m sure before the 4cyl turbo was given the ok to be mass produced, it went through its paces with vigorous on/off road treks, as well as the usual 1m mile dyno testing for durability.
Also, going to 4cyl turbo engines seems to be the engine choice of more and more manufacturers.
For those of us who long and lament for the 350 V8 4 barrel, that ship has sailed.
