Originally intended to become available in Spring 2024, production of the base GMC Hummer EV 2 trim level was delayed, and still hasn’t started yet. Now, it appears as though the entry-level trim has been dropped altogether.
GM Authority has learned that there will be no “base” 2 trim level for the Hummer EV, as was originally announced. As background, the 2 trim was supposed to arrive for the 2024 model year for both the Hummer EV Pickup and Hummer EV SUV, but it seems as though the automaker changed its plans. Moving forward, there will be no 2 model for the 2025 model year.
For reference, the 2 trim level was expected to share bits with the 2X – namely the two-motor powertrain – but feature a smaller battery and a shorter equipment list. Back in 2020, GM originally announced a $79,995 MSRP. For now, the 2025 GMC Hummer EV will be offered in 2X and 3X trim levels, as is the case for 2024 models.
Meanwhile, sales of the off-road-focused electric vehicle increased in the United States over the course of Q4 2023 with a total of 2,028 deliveries. More specifically, there were 825 units of the Hummer EV Pickup sold, along with another 1,203 examples of the Hummer EV SUV.
As a reminder, both the 2 and 2X variants were positioned as all-new trims for the 2024 model year, featuring technologies like GM Ultium battery and GM Ultium Drive motors. Output stood at a GM-claimed 625 horsepower, while range was quoted at roughly 250 miles from a full charge. Speaking of which, the Hummer EV 2 was expected to have a fast charge capacity of 400 volts.
Under the skin, both variants of the GMC Hummer EV ride on the wide-body variant of the GM BT1 platform, while the narrow-body version underpins the Chevy Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV. Production takes place at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan.

Just read an article that EV’s produce tire particle pollution at 3 times the rate of the average ICE vehicle. Bet this 9000 or so pound vehicle is even worse. There are so many hidden negatives about EV’s that are not “Green” at all.
I saw that article and like most it’s very overblown… There are also tires specifically designed for EV that don’t have that fallout.
make sure your tires are properly inflated and don’t go crazy with your acceleration all the time.
Ya if you don’t mind spending 3x as much for the tires. My salesman outside Calgary told me a lady wanted tires for her EV. Can’t remember what it was but her regular tires lasted 23,000 kms. They had a hell of a time finding the special EV tires and when they did find them they were $1000 Canadian a tire. Straight from the horse’s mouth.
I’ve changed tires you don’t need to buy EV specific tires, EV type tires have less resistant for maximum range, when you go to buy new tires you can buy whatever you want. I upgraded to a way better tire. I would never buy an “EV” tire, they don’t do well in inclement weather in my experience.
As long as you have the right load you can use any tire you want
lol the failure of EV trucks, who could have predicted this years ago??? hmmm
Constantly promising base trims with low prices and never building them is tiring. I don’t think car manufacturers realize how this hurts their image.
Pretty much. At this point I resigned to the fact that when the liberal authoritarian dictators of my state mandate EV only sales and GM doesn’t deliver on a proper affordable electric CUV I will look elsewhere.
