A recent viral video captured the moment a driver in a GMC Acadia decided to repeatedly smash into a Chevy Malibu in a parking garage. It appears as though no one was hurt, but the incident definitely left its mark on the two GM vehicles. The exact reason behind the driver’s frustration is unclear, but may be related to a recent job loss.
As the footage begins, we see the GMC Acadia, tires screeching, as the driver accelerates into the back of an unoccupied Chevy Malibu, effectively sandwiching the Chevy sedan between the Acadia and another parked vehicle. The driver, clearly agitated, is seen flailing and exhibiting aggressive behavior inside the Acadia before forcefully backing up to hit the Malibu again.
This particular GMC Acadia is an example of the pre-refresh second generation, which offered two engine options, specifically the 2.5L I4 LCV gasoline engine and the 3.6L V6 LGX engine, rated at 194 horsepower and 310 horsepower, respectively. Unfortunately, it appears as though the power was misused in this instance of unwarranted automotive aggression. The video ends as the driver steps out of the vehicle, slamming the door and storming off.
Online comments suggest the driver may have been a disgruntled employee of a rental car company, with the high-visibility vest and the setup of the cars in the parking garage used as clues to the theory.
Either way, the Chevy Malibu was an undeserving victim in this scenario. After all, the Malibu is one of just three GM sedan models left in the U.S. market, the other two being the Cadillac CT4 and Cadillac CT5. To make matters worse, this particular Malibu is likely a rental car, which means it’s already living a pretty hard life. Do you really need to make matters worse by smashing into it with a GMC Acadia?
