As GM Authority covered back in August 2023, General Motors’ autonomous driving subsidiary Cruise entered a sponsoring partnership with the San Francisco Giants Major League Baseball (MLB) team, adding a patch on player jerseys. Now, while the robotaxi company reorganizes its operations, The General has elected to replace the Cruise patches with Chevy sponsorship patches.
According to a report from San Francisco Business Times, Chevrolet will relieve Cruise as the sponsor of the uniform patches found on Giants players’ jerseys over the course of the 2024 MLB season.
It’s worth noting that it hasn’t been determined what will happen to the patch during the 2025 MLB season, which stands as the final year of the Cruise sponsorship deal.
In other recent Cruise-related developments, the self-driving subsidiary’s share valuation has taken quite the dive as of late. More specifically, Cruise’s internal share price stood at $11.80 per share, which was down from $24.27 just a fiscal quarter prior. Of course, Cruise has seen its operating budget slashed by $1 billion for the 2024 calendar year, so such a devaluation isn’t a huge surprise.
Beyond that, the autonomous driving company also appears to be gearing up for a relaunch in Texas. In fact, Houston and Dallas are emerging as potential locations for Cruise to restart its robotaxi operations since they were paused nationwide in November 2023. That being said, nothing has been officially confirmed yet, as Cruise representatives are currently in the process of working with Texas officials to ensure a safe return to public streets.
With that in mind, we’ve known that Cruise has been working towards getting back out on public roads for some time now. However, up until recently, it wasn’t clear exactly what location the self-driving subsidiary had in mind.
