GM Releases Fix For 2024 Cadillac Lyriq Liftgate Water Intrusion Issue

General Motors has released a Service Update for select units of the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq due to an issue with water intrusion.

Tagged with Service Update number N242440290, certain 2024 Lyriq units may have a condition where water gets into the liftgate or near the cargo area. Certified GM technicians have been instructed to inspect affected vehicles and replace the liftgate glass, along with various electrical components as needed. Notably, it should take techs roughly 3.5 hours to compete this fix.

It’s worth noting that it’s currently unclear how many units are affected at this time.

In other Cadillac Lyriq-related developments, GM Authority recently reported that the luxury marque’s all-electric crossover boasted a 50-percent conquest rate, which is to say that roughly 50 percent of those who purchased the Lyriq had previously bought a vehicle from a competing automaker. This strong conquest rate is reflected by the electric luxury crossover’s sales, which climbed nearly 7,500 percent to 9,154 units over the course of Q4 2023.

As a reminder, the current 2024 Cadillac Lyriq is available with a choice of two drivetrains. For starters, the Lyriq RWD features a single motor mounted on the rear axle and produces 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the Lyriq AWD is equipped with a pair of electric motors – one on each axle – and develops a combined 500 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque. Both models utilize GM Ultium battery and GM Ultium Drive motors technologies.

A performance boost is available for the 2024 Lyriq AWD units as well. The Velocity upgrade package is priced at $1,200 and adds 74 pound-feet of torque, for a peak rating of 524 pound-feet and a 0-60 mph time drop from 4.7 to 4.4 seconds. The Velocity upgrade is expected to eventually be available on the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq as well.

As far as range figures are concerned, the RWD variant boasts 314 miles on a full charge, while the AWD version features 307 miles on a full charge.

In regard to structure, the Lyriq is underpinned by the GM BEV3 platform, while production takes place at the GM Spring Hill plant in Tennessee.

  1. Appreciate the information. Has any successfully purchased the Velocity upgrade? When you reach out to Onstar they had no idea what it was.

    1. I believe it’s an over-the-air update, and OTAs for Lyriq and Blazer EV were temporarily halted until the most recent software reprogramming had rolled out. If you’re truly interested in buying the performance unlock right now, you could probably check with your service department to see if they can manually apply it somehow. My guess is they can’t and you’ll have to wait until GM is confident they’ve worked out the bugs that were affecting OTA updates.
