GM Design is showing off concepts from the Urban Active Project, including the PEV2 and PEV3 Personal Electric Vehicles. The concepts showcase forward-looking electric vehicles designed to efficiently move people through a congested urban environment using cutting-edge electric propulsion systems and the latest technology. The designs could serve as inspiration for General Motors’ future low-cost all-electric vehicles.
Prior to publishing the images of the PEV2 and PEV3 Personal Electric Vehicles, General Motors published a video on the Urban Active Project. The video includes commentary by GM Advanced Design manager Wade Bryant, who discusses what the project is about and some of the highlights. According to Bryant, the project launched with global research into the current challenges in urban transportation, as well as trends among policymakers and the unmet needs of individuals and businesses with regard to moving people and goods through a congested urban environment.
“We couldn’t just do a derivative of existing vehicle products that we do today,” Bryant says. “We had to look beyond that and consider the full spectrum of opportunities to create a lot of new products that would address unmet needs.”

Among these new product concepts is the PEV2 and PEV3 Personal Electric Vehicles, which were designed many years ago specifically for moving people through an urban environment. The vehicles feature a futuristic design and sleek user interface, with a slim, efficient footprint that not only promises to make the most of available energy through the onboard propulsion system, but would also provide a more maneuverable platform to navigate the tight spaces that are typical of a big city.

Multiple configurations are shown, including two-seater and three-seater models. The interior of the vehicles include high-resolution screens and other digital technology features, while the look and layout appears to be streamlined and futuristic.

Although the exact way in which these concepts will be used remains unclear, they may provide inspiration for Chevy’s future low-cost EVs, including the upcoming next-generation Chevy Bolt EV.
