GM Announces Its 2023 Supplier Of The Year Award Winners

The General is saluting its top component and service suppliers from last year with its list of 2023 Supplier of the Year Award winners, with 86 companies included on the roll call of enterprises “who have made notable contributions to our transformation,” GM Global Purchasing and Supply Chain vice president Jeff Morrison said.

Additionally, partner companies of GM whose efforts “far exceeded expectations” were given Overdrive Awards, with only eight names appearing on this more rarefied list.

GM says it uses a “rigorous” selection process involving a “priority wheel” to determine the winners of both levels of awards. The innovativeness, success in supplying necessary components, and similar factors are considered. However, The General says a company matching up to its trio of core values – “Safety, Inclusion and Relationships” – is the basis for all other factors used in the awards.

The table below shows the winners of the 2023 Supplier of the Year Award:

The GM Overdrive Award trophy.

The numbers of both types of awards are down sharply from 2022. A year ago, GM named 107 Supplier of the Year recipients and twice as many Overdrive Award winners at 16 companies. Most of the names on 2023’s list were also present in the 2022 lineup. 2021 Supplier of the Year award winners were still more numerous at 134, though there were only 8 Overdrive Award suppliers. The latter category is completely different in 2021 and 2023.

For the 2020 awards, there were 122 Suppliers of the Year and no less than a whopping 26 Overdrive Awards. GM first began offering the awards in 1992 to recognize its best business partners, with a trophy handed to out to the winners in commemoration.

General Motors’ announcement mentioned two companies that won awards without specifically naming them as examples of the actions likely to win the awards. The first figured out a way to reduce the automaker’s diesel use by 2,900 gallons, preventing 17 tons of greenhouse gases from being released. The other took only five days to get a 600,000 square foot facility operational to deliver components to GM faster.

VP Jeff Morrison declared that “together, we’re pushing boundaries, pioneering new technologies and redefining what’s possible.”

  7. Ford Ranger is 8 percent American. All the ten speeds transmission that GM did for them is now built in China, the Bronco is 17% American. f150 is 28% American Navigator is only 17% American for 108.000.and the dealers year off the stickers. And say they’re 90% American. NOT

    1. GM did not do the ten speed transmission for Ford, it was a common development between Ford and GM. Parts are manufactured in NA; same suppliers for both transmission plants. Assembly is also done in NA. Lots of misinformation in your posting.
Even if you hate Ford, you should do the research and post the correct information.
