Just over a month ago, Mike Abbott elected to step down from his role as General Motors Executive Vice President of Software and Services, citing health concerns as his reason for leaving the position. The former GM exec has now landed positions on two advisory boards, where his thorough knowledge of computers and artificial intelligence will prove invaluable.
As a reminder, prior to being picked up by GM in 2023, Abbott served as Vice President of Engineering for Apple’s Cloud Services division, as well as working with Microsoft and X (formerly Twitter). Currently, he is on the board of USC Viterbi School of Engineering, as well as the UC Berkeley Engineering advisory board, along with a position on the foundation board at California Polytechnic State University. He has also been a visiting professor at the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Lab (SAIL), advancing research in computer vision, and serves as an adjunct Lecturer at Stanford Computer Science Department. He will carry that experience into his new posts on the advisory boards of Innovaccer and HTEC Group.
The former, Innovaccer, is a data platform for healthcare systems, and Abbott will lend his expertise to help develop AI-based healthcare software. The company’s platform is currently found in over 1,600 hospitals and clinics in the U.S., and has been named the No. 1 population health technology platform by Black Book.
Meanwhile, HTEC Group is a digital consulting, software engineering and product development firm that offers end-to-end digital product development, with emphases on healthcare, retail, transportation, financial services, energy and infrastructure, media, entertainment and Deep Tech.
Upon Abbott’s departure from GM, Baris Cetinok was named as the automaker’s new VP of Software and Services. Cetinok joined GM in late 2023, bringing experience from Apple, Amazon and Microsoft to the position.
