GM dealers can now place orders for the all-new 2025 Chevy Equinox crossover, GM Authority has learned. GM will begin processing new 2025 Equinox orders on April 25th, 2024, a week later than originally anticipated. The 2025 Chevy Equinox introduces the crossover’s latest fourth generation, complete with new styling, an overhauled cabin, new safety tech, and a new Activ trim level.
Per previous GM Authority coverage, the start of regular production (SORP) for the 2025 Chevy Equinox is expected to begin at the GM San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico on June 17th, 2024. The June 17th SORP date is almost exactly one month later than originally projected.
The latest fourth-gen Equinox debuts a long list of updates over the preceding model, including new exterior dimensions with a longer wheelbase, longer overall length, and wider overall width. The biggest gains are in width, which have increased 2.3 inches front and rear compared to the outgoing model.
The new dimensions are paired with new styling and proportions, this time taking inspiration from Chevy’s truck lineup. Highlights include all-LED lighting and wheel sizing up to 20 inches in diameter via the RS trim level. The fourth-gen model also debuts the new Activ trim level, designed to appeal to outdoor enthusiasts with unique elements like all-terrain tires and a distinct front fascia.
Interior upgrades include an 11-inch driver information center and a larger 11.3-inch digital infotainment screen. Standard features like the Chevy Safety Assist package include a number of safety technology items, including Automatic Emergency Braking and Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning.
Under the hood, the 2025 Equinox is powered by a turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine. This engine is paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) for front-wheel-drive models, while all-wheel-drive variants receive the GM eight-speed automatic transmission. The GM D2 platform provides the underpinnings.

Hopefully this roll out goes much more smoothly than the new mid size trucks. They have been on the market for over a year and into the second model year and we still cannot get the product here in Canada. Ordered 1 in early Feb and still cannot get a build date. If you check the lots most dealers have no inventory, and most that may be arriving are already presold.
When I ordered my 2016 Z71 it took 5 months and I had the truck. I am concerned the 25 model year will be started and i will still not have a build date !!!
Nice looking an improvement in looks hopefully the hybrid model comes here to. I own a 2020 equinox 2.0t and love it my friends wife has a 2018 equinox 1.5 that goes everywhere and is very reliable that’s probably one reason why GM doesn’t want to mess with this engine besides that’s what most people but I had to really search for my 2.0t.
Some of my friends have complained the 1.5 burns more oil than the 2L. Have you found that to be true? One friend says hers burns about 1qt for every 1,000 miles. That’s concerning to me.
We have a 2.0l 2020 mid night AWD and a 2018 premier 1.5l AWD
The 1.5 has 245,000k and its been totally reliable , no issues with oil, it get changed every 8000k
And it has great fuel economy!!
Its totally acceptable for the Nox. The 2.0l is great , lots of power , but uses more fuel.
In everyday driving the 1.5 is just fine.
dkaz burn oil. How many miles are on the car, what’s the maintenance that’s been done, every car burns a little oil with age but sounds like the owner neglected to fix something or just didn’t take care of the car turbo engines require oil changes every 4 to 5 thousand miles I wouldn’t go over that mileage that’s what I do with 2 liter abd that goes for any turbo car even a Toyota.
GMGUY thanks for the response. After reading the other comments attached to this, I’m not going to worry about it too much. I’ve liked the Equinox since 2005 when it first came out but wasn’t ready for an SUV at the time. I was pretty disappointed the GM dropped the 2L in favor of the 1.5L but according to a Motortrend article I read, because of not many owners showing disappointment in the latter GM decided to save money by discontinuing the larger engine. I’ve always been a V6 person but decided since I don’t need that size engine anymore, I’d settle for the 2L. Then of course, the inevitable happened. I’m trying to learn as much about the reliability of the 1.5L as I possibly can to see if it will be to my liking. Thank you again for your input.
Not sure if this helps, but I was in the same boat. I normally drive a Buick Lacrosse 3.6L v6 and was eyeing the 2.0T before it got discontinued. I recently was able to rent a 2024 GMC Terrain (sister car to the Equinox) with the 1.5T. It performed admirably, including on the highway. I can’t comment on the reliability but it was really put through the paces and I have no doubt that the engine has enough power for my needs. Give it a test drive and you’ll see if it works out for you.
Richard P I’ll definitely do that before purchasing one. The dealership is near an interstate so I’ll run it up the exit for a test drive. Passing power is important to me so I’ll see how she does. This reminds me of when the K cars came out. I was surprised at how quick those little 4 cylinders were and did ponder on purchasing one as a second car but stuck with a GM car. Thank you for your input.
dkaz, we have two 1.5L equinox in the family, both have been bullet proof. One thing i would say is to get the fuel service done every 30k or so. Turbo engines like higher octane fuel and GM tuned the 1.5L to run on 87. Having the fuel injectors, intake etc. cleaned every once in a while has helped the engine helps prevent the carbon buildup that can make it feel a little sluggish, Also a good idea for the longevity of the turbo. But overall, VERY reliable engine!
If your friend adds a Qt. Every 1000. He’s full of it or needs a new mot. I have a 2019 1.5 with a hundred thousand on it and still use the oil life monitor and have never added oil between changes. And nobody but my techs at my GM dealership have ever touched my EQ.also I live in a area where it drops to -30 in the winter months.
Mine didn’t burn any oil.
What about a date for a phev being produced, and sold
When a vehicle’s best looking exterior color is black that’s not good. GM dumped Very Berry Red (2003) and Ashen Grey (2014) for the blasia shades they’re offering now. I was looking forward to trading up for a 2025 Equinox but I already own a black vehicle. Guess I’ll continue to wait patiently.
Ken it says in the article that they are going to start producing the 2025 equinox on June 17th 2024 in Mexico of course that could change but I couldn’t see why they would mess it up like the Silverado.
Another new or so called updated GM vehicle that is all show and no go 1.5 CVT are you kidding me, looks and tech should not be the only thing that sells but that is all people want so have at it.
GM will say burning one quart of oil per 1,000 miles is “normal”. I say that is bullsh-t. My 2017 Equinox 4 wheel drive with the 2.5 L engine burns a gallon of gas every 17 miles. Disappointing even when 75% of my miles are non- highway.
Jerome I own a 2020 equinox 2.0t while I like the extra power I rarely if ever use it and the 1.5 is better on MPG, I am waiting to see if GM brings the hybrid here.
ok, when is the online ordering opening up? Looks like a nice update from previous generation.
No Hybrid with a non turbo charged engine, then not buying GM, it’s really that simple.
It is turbocharged.
Being that I only drive about 3,500 miles a year I always thought that a turbo-charged engine was just one more expensive thing to go bad after the warranty is long expired. I do believe in only using Top Tier gasoline.
“Dealers Can Now Start Taking 2025 Chevy Equinox Orders”
Nice way of saying “Dealers can now pull the lever on the allocation slot machine, and hope something shows up in 2025”.
To my surprise, the Sharkfin Pillar is starting to grow on me despite the fact that the vehicle hasn’t even been produced yet. It took a little time for me to be drawn into it.
I still say a hybrid and Premier trim level are really needed to make this competitive with other makes. Literally everybody else from Hyundai/Kia to Ford to Jeep to Toyota and Honda and even Nissan offer both sporty and luxury oriented trims and either a hybrid or more powerful engine option. They also need more interior color choices when the vinyl option is ordered on the LT and RS as you have to move up to the off road oriented Active just to have a color option.
My Dealer in Montana still has not received their allocation, how long does this take or will it happen at all this year?
Thank you
