General Motors has unveiled a new special edition variant of the Chevy Silverado 1500 aimed at fans of the custom vehicle style known as the “Carolina Squat.” Called the Chevy Silverado High And Low Country, the new truck includes a long list of unique enhancements to the exterior, interior and suspension. Similar to the Chevy Silverado Texas Edition, the new Silverado High And Low Country will only be available in select markets.
“The custom truck market continues to grow exponentially, with enthusiasts demanding all manner of personalization for their vehicles,” said Vice President, Global Chevrolet, Scott Gong. “Even so, no one is catering to the Carolina Squat crowd quite like Chevy with our new Silverado High And Low Country.”
To achieve the dramatic new stance, the Silverado High And Low Country features a 10-inch front-end lift right from the factory, a first for a major OEM. The rolling stock was upgraded with 17-inch wheels and wheel spacers, while flared, riveted fenders complete the look. Final touches include blacked-out headlights and taillights, tinted privacy glass, as well as illuminated brake rotors and an array of light bars up and down the front end.
“The new Silverado High and Low Country is high in the front and low in the back, similar to a mullet,” Gong added. “Chevy continues to innovate by negating the painful process of executing the Carolina Squat in the aftermarket.”
While some critics have characterized the Carolina Squat as “dangerous” and a “public menace,” GM says it made the proper modifications to ensure the Silverado High And Low Country is safe to operate on public roads, including an array of downward-facing cameras to capture the area immediately in front of the vehicle.
Further highlights include a set of smoke stack-style exhaust pipes in the bed for the Duramax engine, complete with a muffler delete for a “loud, aggressive engine tone,” pairing with an atmospheric blow-off valve on turbocharged vehicles, as well as a train horn to notify others who may be driving too slowly.
Customers can also upgrade their vehicle with an optional flag pole mount, CB radio antennas and hitch-mounted “nutz” (RPO code NUT). The features list is rounded out with the new Bro-Flex tailgate, a new take on the Chevy Multi-Flex tailgate that includes a built-in vape charging station and a squeezed juice dispenser, to boot.
