GM is now including a new TurboMax badge on freshly produced units of the Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500, providing a nod to the TurboMax 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine under the hood. The new badging coincides with an engine rebranding effort launched in conjunction with the trucks’ 2024 model year, mirroring branding already established for GM’s iconic Duramax diesel engine family. Now, we’re getting our first look at the new TurboMax badge on the hood of a new GM pickup truck.
The badge featured in the new photo shows large, block letters with a sleek black finish, prominently placed on a ridge on the truck’s hood, mimicking the placement of the Duramax badging seen on GM pickups previously. The TurboMax four-cylinder is the fourth Chevy Silverado 1500 / GMC Sierra 1500 to include a powertrain-specific badge, with previous examples including the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine, and the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine. To note, the LZ0 turbodiesel replaced the LM2 turbodiesel in the pickups’ engine lineup in conjunction with the 2023 model year.
Under the hood of the Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500, the TurboMax 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine is rated at 310 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 430 pound-feet of torque at 3,000 rpm, offering an impressive 9,500-pound max tow rating.
The TurboMax L3B is equipped as standard on 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 WT, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, and LT Trail Boss trim levels. The four-cylinder is not offered on ZR2, LTZ, or High Country trims. Meanwhile, the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 equips the L3B as standard on Pro, SLE, and Elevation trim levels, while the four-cylinder is not offered on SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, or Denali Ultimate trims.
GM filed to trademark the TurboMax name early last year, per exclusive GM Authority coverage.

Badge of shame?
Watering down the max name?
Perhaps… The increased engine warranty along with this gimmick seems like people are voting with their dollars and are either buying the V8s or non-gm brands altogether.
Well, by last quarter’s report, they aren’t buying ford ands rams.
WHERE WILL IT CRACK? LIKE THE P.O.S. ENGINE DOES
Agreed!!
Drive one dip S&:T before you comment
YAWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ll take a new small block V8 with a chrome badge on whatever liter they come out with
Great a badge to go along with it’s harsh sound track and comical lowest in class mileage ratings that have been lowered yet again to 17/18/19 on all 4X4 configurations of these trucks.
Lipstick on a pig
So salesmen can’t try to pass these off as V8s?
(Though some will still try despite the big badge on the hood.)
Meh. The badging isn’t necessary. I love my Turbomax. Its been a great engine in the 20,000mi I’ve put on it so far. Plenty of power, tows great and so far has beat my 2018 5.3 in MPG by a good amount. I’m up 3-4mpg compared to the 5.3 I had. I get about 17-19mpg per tank in the winter, 20-23mpg in the summer compared to my 5.3 which got 13-15mpg in the winter per tank, 16-18mpg in the summer.
The “sound” of it doesn’t phase me one bit, and I’ve had a bunch of V8s and a Colorado Duramax.
So far it’s been worth taking the risk/experiment with the Turbomax. I can’t complain one bit unlike others on this site who seem to (and not just about this engine).
That probably means you jackrabbit the peddle. 5% of drivers see an economy drop with AFM as the engine constantly is switching AFM on and off and retrims the fuel each cycle. My father has a 16, and sees 20-24 with off road tires and AFM. With DFM you would probably see +1 to what you’re getting now.
I really like the 2.7 turbo in my ’24. I get 19-20 in mixed driving. I drive very gently. It pulls my 6500 lbs travel trailer better than the 4.8 V8 in my previous truck. I really like it. So far the only complaints I have seen on multiple sites are from those who don’t own the truck.
Turbocrap 💩
I will keep my 5.3. Thanks
My god… they are so proud of this engine! And for the life of me I cannot figure out why! It’s not that great at anything. It is noisy, unrefined and the fuel economy is the same as the 5.3L, Worse if you tow with it!!! The victory laps over an engine that was completely unnecessary are getting old. I had one for two years, I could not wait to give it back when the lease was over!
MIGHTY MIGHT I JUST PULLED A 11000 POUND BOAT FROM FLORIDA TO NEW JERSEY AT 70 TO 75 MPH. AVERAGED ABOUT 10 MPG, BUT HAD TO LOOK BACK TO MAKE SURE IT WAS STILL THERE!! 17 HRS OF NON STOP DRIVING, ONLY STOPPING FOR GAS, NO PROBLEMS
Caps lock bro. Now it’s more understandable while you bought one.
Even if I had one, which I don’t, I wouldn’t want to brag about it. I’ll stick with my 3.0 diesel. I’m on a trip mostly in Arizona, mostly 80+ MPH,and overall mileage is 25.3 so far
Well said. The 3.0 diesel IS THE BEST option available on these trucks. Had one in my Yukon and got 36 highway and 26 city.
