The 2024 Chevy Colorado pickup was chosen last December as the 2024 MotorTrend Truck of the Year, winning that recognition thanks to its flexibility, the distinctive usefulness of each trim level, and other factors.
Now, the Bow Tie brand is taking a victory lap with a new 16-second video celebrating the success of the Chevy Colorado in gaining the Truck of the Year accolade, focusing on the pickup’s “unsurpassed” 7,700-pound max towing capacity as well as its reasonable starting MSRP of $31,095.
The brief video shows the Chevy Colorado skimming along the water’s edge on a sandy beach before switching to a view of the vehicle towing a small camper over a bridge, while its towing specs are shown. The brief video ends with a frame showing the Bow Tie tagline “Together Let’s Drive.” The tagline was introduced late last year to replace the previous “Find New Roads” slogan.
Celebrating the Colorado’s win of the award seems well-earned, as it defeated tough contenders like the Ford F-150 Raptor R and the Ford F-Series Super Duty along with a lineup of The General’s other trucks from Chevrolet and GMC. Value was a significant factor, with qualify features matched to an affordable price.
MotorTrend also singled out the 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 trim for praise, noting that the variant’s off-road focus didn’t come at the expense of its on-road ride. Alexander Stoklosa, deputy editor, said “few hardcore off-roaders manage this balancing act.” Relatedly, a video from last year showcased the ZR2 Bison trim, including its numerous unique interior and exterior features and off-road ready suspension.
The Chevy Colorado also made the “Best of 2024” list published by the North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year Awards, or NACTOY. The Colorado made it to the Finalist category of the Truck of the Year award for the 2024 model year, though the Ford Super Duty was the category winner.

As a reminder, the Colorado is underpinned by an updated variant of the GMT 31XX platform, also used for structure by the third-gen GMC Canyon. Production of the pickup is carried out at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

Took me 6 months and 300 miles to get a 2023 Colorado that I had order and was cancelled so took it in for a recall on AEB and while there said the auto start stop wasn’t working, two days later picked it up, said low battery. Four days later sent them a message saying auto start quit again but no big deal but was told to bring it in. Battery tested bad so was replaced, going on five days and still not working. This vehicle has less than 1000 miles on it. Having second thoughts now
I don’t know, but the Colorado/Canyon twins have been experiencing a host of teething problems with some owners, mostly to deal with the electricals and electronics. GM better get on top of these issues with their midsize trucks.
They will sort it out by the 2026 MY I believe. Never buy the first year of ANY generation.
It took 6 months, but my Canyon Denali was finally built the last week of 2023 production in December and I got it in January – just 3 weeks later. No issues at all after 3 months. Maybe the kinks are getting worked out! I love it.
My Colorado was built December of 2023 so figured they’d work out all the kinks but looks like it continued into 2024 models. Some of these companies that give out ratings on vehicles I do not trust their opinion anymore, maybe some kickbacks going on
Wait until the 2026/2027 MY.
Worst. Rollout. Ever.
I ordered a 2024 Colorado Trail Boss in January. Took it home April 5th with 5 miles on it. Drove it 4 times, and on April 14th with 98 miles on it, the transmission blew up. I own a 1959 Corvette, a 1964 Chevy II, a 1964 Chevelle SS, a 1971 Nova, a 1998 Lumina, and my daily driver is a 1991 S10. Obviously a loyal Chevy owner but not so much any more. What is wrong with GM?
98 miles? Something is wrong with the way you used it.
The Kiss of Death. Motor Trend has killed some dreams at GM; Vega, Corvair, Citation all received the “Golden Calipers” and proved to be gross disappointments. The new Colorado is off to a pretty rocky start, hoping things smooth out for Year 2.
I have a 2024 Colorado ZR2 which I find a good buy and the only con so far, is the engine. Too small. Should go back to a choice of 4 or 6 cylinder. Not only one choice
Take a bow chev, now if you could only build and deliver a 2024 in less then 8 months.
The latest issue of Car & Driver has a comparison test of the new Tacoma vs the Colorado.
Constant building constraints and stop sales. Really deserving of “Truck of the year”. How are those Colorado Bisons coming along GM? Really cranking those things out just like the 23s?
Ordered my 24 Colorado Z71in early Feb and the dealer just called today and its in. All options as ordered except spray in bed liner , but dealer will have Line X installed
mine is red Z71, leather seats , Trailer package , Safety pkg, Conv III and Conv II, Wheels flares, bed liner , off road steps , stow flex and EZ tailgate.
Will pick up early next week.
I’m hoping since i waited until the second model year that the kinks are out. My current truck, a 2016 Z71 4WD crew cab was also the second model year. It has been a great truck and soon to be 9 years old. still looks and works like new and will stay in the family .
They really should do “Truck of the year” 5 years after launch.
