Fortunately, few people are run over by a muscle car while sitting in their living room enjoying an evening movie or TV show. However, a 66-year-old man in Brent, Florida, outside Pensacola, was struck by a runaway Chevy Camaro under precisely these circumstances on Wednesday.
The incident began when a southbound 38-year-old female driver lost control of her Chevy Camaro on Chimes Way at 12:45 AM and slammed into the wall of a single-family home, the Miami Herald reports.
The hurtling Chevy Camaro punched directly through the living room wall of the house, losing enough momentum that it failed to smash through the opposite wall. Instead, it came to a stop wedged between sofas and armchairs. In the process, it struck the 66-year-old homeowner while he was in the living room, unfortunately inflicting critical injuries on him. His younger brother, 65, was also in the room and sustained “serious” rather than “critical” injuries.
Escambia County Fire Rescue teams arrived on the scene in response to what is described as a “vehicle versus building call.” They found the Camaro driver inside the home, seemingly completely unharmed, and transported the badly injured brothers struck by her car to the hospital for treatment. The situation was said to be “resolved” by 1:24 AM.
Google Street View provides some additional insight into the crash. The area is a residential street, complete with single-family homes, shade trees, and white picket fences. The speed limit for all residential areas in Florida is 30 miles per hour, raising questions as to how much the driver exceeded the limit.
The report says the Camaro was southbound on Chimes Way and struck a house in the 400 block of the Lenox Parkway. Chimes Way ends at its southern tip in a T-junction with the Lenox Parkway, which runs roughly east and west at right angles to Chimes. From this, it appears the driver blasted south at high speed along Chimes Way and failed to turn right or left at its southern end, instead speeding across the Lenox Parkway, straight over its shoulder onto a lawn, and from there plunged into the north wall of one of several houses facing the entrance of Chimes.

The Camaro driver was “cited for careless driving,” and a Florida Highway Patrol investigation has been started. The house is too badly damaged for the brothers to reoccupy it until repairs are completed, according to the local fire department.
