Chevy Blazer EV Rival Ford Mustang Mach-E Sees Sales Boost Following Price Cut

As the broader automotive industry bolsters the all-electric segments with new models, those already on the market must adapt to stay competitive. That includes the Ford Mustang Mach-E, which rivals the Chevy Blazer EV. As GM Authority covered previously, Ford slashed prices on the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E in February amid growing dealer inventory, a move that resulted in a boost to sales. Nevertheless, legacy automakers continue to struggle to make EVs profitable.

According to a report from Cloud Theory, the recent cut to Ford Mustang Mach-E prices has created a surge in consumer demand. Immediately following the price cut, figures on the number of Mach-E units sold per week jumped from around 300 to more than 1,000, with up to 1,800 units per week towards the middle of March. In the 30 days leading up to the March 19 Cloud Theory report, the Mach-E nearly tripled its vehicle-moved share from 5.2 percent to 13.3 percent.

The report goes to state that while the latest numbers indicate that EVs still show potential in the marketplace, there are several caveats left to deal with. For example, while the Mach-E turn rate (or percentage of vehicles in inventory that moved over the course of a 30-day period) improved to 26 percent with the recent surge in sales, 26 percent is still relatively middling compared to equivalent ICE and hybrid models. For example, while the Mach-E struggles to hit 2,000 units sold weekly, the Ford Explorer moves 4,000 units weekly.

What’s more, OEMs are still struggling to make EVs profitable, something which the recent Mach-E price cuts and subsequent surge in sales don’t address. As GM CEO Mary Barra addressed last year, lower-priced EVs simply aren’t profitable yet, with Barra pointing to battery costs as a significant detractor.

That said, GM’s battery production efforts continue to expand, including production at facilities like the Ultium Cells plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee. GM expects EV profitability from the second half of 2024 onwards.

  2. To me, Ford just seems to “get” it, while GM destroys names, brands, legends, and can’t launch cars for their lives…

    1. Ford gets it that wagon Tesla looking Mach E should not use a mustang mane from the past it’s not a mustang it’s a modern ford Taurus wagon…that would’ve been a good name to bring back Taurus EV. I agree the Blazer could’ve been called nomad or whatever but at least the Blazer EV is an CUV/SUV/wagon. I am waiting for the equinox EV it be cheaper then both of those. Oh and the plastic fantastic bronco come on Ford at least metal grill and wheels and can’t the headlights just be round without the weird little notches. I honestly hate some new cars that’s why even if GM did bring back the two door Blazer it would be a plastic mess even jeep with the wrangler and the base model black plastic fender guards and grill look awful.

  3. Saw my first blazer ev in person at costco today. Looked good. I still think the packaging lacks though. Why can I not get a sun roof (LT only) and a HUD (RS only) on the same car? The price point is decent now with the latest price reduction and looks better in person than the photos I’ve seen. It’s like the Lyriq, where is the HUD on the Lyriq?

    1. Uh inventory showed sunroofs on the LT when I last checked these past days since price cuts. Also noticed some of the launch models have and extra 4 to 5k taken off by dealers but none are near me. And it was called a launch discount beyond the 7.5k and the convenience pkg discounts bringing some down to 41Kish.

  4. Why is this so surprising? The more they lower the price of the Mach-e, the more attractive the car becomes. There is lots of Mach-e metal sitting at dealers and on back lots, that are deteriorating as we read this.
